last night I pull off all the wheels, checked and cleaned the front brake disks and sanded the front pads to remove any glaze, swapped out the rear brake pads for DS2500's, checked all drive line bolts and found and tightened the loose front diff mounts to resolve the clonk I had then resealed around the brake fluid reservoir, topped up oil and PS fluid and checked gearbox and diff oil levels. all in about 90 minutes work. I am getting better at it!

I've made it glow red with a blow torch and whacked it, I've murdered a couple of drill bits and got nowhere and I've drunk a bottle of beer and sworn at it.... any other tips??

Cheers for the offer matey thumbup

Car is in pieces at the moment so I'm in no rush, will take it to work and make it a £10 challenge with the fitters to get it out. If I end up needing another one I'll let you know smile

A high quality carbide drill should do the trick.

At a slow speed wink bit of cutting oil should do the trick,
But the wishbone is looking a bit tired in this shot. Shot blast and it'll probably be good smile

If it were in my workshop and as said there is no rush I would leave it in our wash tank for a few days.
Unlike a threaded fixing it should not need drilling.
Are you anywhere near the South coast? Our 30 ton press should make short work of that.

Yesterday 'Ol Gasbag' developed a nasty hesitant flat spot when getting back on the throttle confused

So today I...
  • Removed the plenum & plenum base to inspect & reseal
  • Cleaned the throttle body, butterfly, Bosch extra air valve and plenum
  • Various associated resealing jobs on the plenum take offs (servo, vaporiser vac ref and positive crankcase ventilation hoses)
I basically went right through it and found six elements I wasn't happy with ranging from lose pipes to a lose throttle neck extender sleeve that Lloyds must have added at some point without me asking for it or them telling me they'd added it?

But the most shocking thing was just how dirty the throttle body & butterfly was, I really wish I'd taken a photo, there was so much oily carbon gunge on it the whole cleaning up job took me a good 40 minutes before I was happy with the "eat my dinner of it" end result.

With everything back together, hoses tightened, extra air valve cleaned, and many little sealing jobs complete I took the car for a test drive praying I didn't need to start suspecting the (£150 to replace) throttle position sensor.

Fortunately 'Ol Gasbag' was back to her silky smooth self, smother than ever in fact, and no real surprise given the state of the gunged up state of the throttle body & butterfly and the lose throttle neck extender sleeve thing.

Normal service resumed I took the dash of another Chimaera and did a cheeky reliability improving immobiliser bypass. Happy with that lot completed in what amounted to not much more than a mornings work I rewarded myself by taking my new TVR friend out to show him LPG doesn't mean slow at all wink

His expression of surprise was quite the thing yikes

Today I had this delivered to me. It weighs over a Ton and turned up in a Sprinter van. I dont have a fork lift truck at home so it took an hour to get out of the van. Used a Jeep to tow it out of the back ! Four post assembly here I come.

I re-coloured the hood with renovo...looks good colour wise but still has marks over it where someone tried to make pretty patterns with a pressure washer at some point.
