Where did you get that hatch from ?
Look on page 2 of this forum to my thread "headlight bulb"and all the answers are there . I cant do the linky thing (too techy)but I got them on E-bay 15quid for 2. They are made for marine/boat use. Steve_D said:

5 inch but they do make other sizes.
Don't go thinking bigger is better as the face you are fitting to is curved. If you go too big the curve makes them impossible to fit neatly.Steve

Have you fitted the wheels back on yet? The thing that worries me is that I have scrub marks on my original ones from the wheel, do these stick out from the curve of the arch much? Admittedly mine is sat very low with 17in front wheels on it

But mine don't rub Anthony?? Or are my tyres a 40 hmm, I can never remember the damn sizes. I'll look and confirm.
Mine are in fact 40 profile Not enough height on the fronts really.
I have always been fine with 215/45 17, which is a diameter of (215 x 0.45 x 2) + 431 = 624.5mm
You will be fine with 225/40 17, as this is a diameter of (225 x 0.4 x 2) + 431 = 611mm, so smaller despite being a wider tyre.
Me on 225/45 17 had problems, as they are a diameter of (225 x 0.45 x 2) + 431 = 633.5mm.
I would imagine from the amount mine catch that anything under 630mm would probably be ok.
But I might not be tempted to try 245/40 17 fronts (you would need at least 8J wheels anyway), as while these have a diameter of only (245 x 0.4 x 2) + 431 = 627mm, the extra width might well cause the tyres to catch on full lock.
Alun, what are the full specs of your front and rear tyres? I can work out whether you have sufficient difference to give you the proper rake, and diameter compared to stock

My 235/40/17s don't catch on the inner wings, they did on the wishbones on full lock but don't now as I have the curved tubular wishbones fitted.
Thanks for this - useful info(235 x 0.4 x 2) + 431 = 619mm, so well within my 630mm diameter calculated limit.
However, it does point out that the wider the tyre the bigger the risk of catching on full lock.
Fronts are 225/40/17 on a 7.5 J wheel
Rears are 245/45/17 on a 7.5 J wheel
I'd like to go to a 50 on the fronts (if I can get the tyre size) when I go to Rainsports,
The rake I'll deal with via ride height but a 40 is a nightmare over pot holes etc
I'll go to a 215 on the fronts if that allows me clearance for a 50 profile.
ill look into it properly when I can afford the blighters !
Cheers Anthony

245/45 17 = 651mm
so yes, more than the factory 25mm rake.
215/50 17 if they exist would be 646mm, so perhaps a bit big?
I would go for 215/45 17 myself (and frequently have) = 625mm
26mm rake, sounds about perfect to me.
Here's your tyres:

Cheap as chips. Nice one Anthony
I've really got to make an effort to sell off some old but very useful Tvr bits before I spend more on the car, sort of moral principle more than anything.
I want to change shocks for a more road based set so tyres would be good to change at the same time so only one geo setting up required.
I've been very happy with the car these last twelve months, not really spent a penny on it and for awhile thought I'd leave it alone, but there's always something wearing out or a Clive Y to consider.
I want to get the road holding and comfort(as best I can) sorted before doing anything else.
I have a couple of drop link strengthening bars to weld onto the rear lower wishbones when I can cope with living without the car for a few days, I'm just lazy and can't be bothered to deal with it with all this wet weather, rather leave the car alone.
Started her up today, should take a video, smoke rings out the exhausts
