Liking the Vixen...

Spent a happy hour fitting a new handbrake lever yesterday, from TVR Parts. Apart from the different pivot bolt size, and profile of lever tube that doesn't easily accept my Leven grip and button, it fitted perfectly. Ho hum...

Fitted two refurbished and 'sealed' to Wendy.

Then unearthed my core drills. Not car related but they were in the garage.

Nice sunny dry day for a change so off with the cover, off with the targa, started her up and let her warm up properly. Left it running while stood in the sun to shift any damp there might be and to charge up the battery again. Quick check of everything electric to make sure all is working as it should then back on with the targa and cover till next time. wink

Tried to get Tamy going.

Fuel pump relay appeared to be at fault for blowing the fuse.

Still not firing though.

Oh, the word 'wheels' is missing from my last post.

I spent the afternoon sitting in the engine bay of the Chimaera. smile

I stripped off the heat shielding, cleaned up the inner wings and fitted new heat shielding. Unfortunately the nearside wing was slightly different, probably for an earlier model and will be exchanged.
Disconnected all the brake and clutch pipes from the junction block on the offside inner wing for a neater job although this isn't a show car. Now I have to renew the fluid in the brake system when it is only about a year old, hohum.

Also fitted some heat and sound installation which I sourced cheaply from eBay to the lower areas of the engine bay and back behind the gearbox.

Had a general tidy up when I was down there arranging all the wiring etc ready for the engine gearbox replacement in a few weeks once I have rebuilt the engine.

Looking good, it's a very satisfying job having a nice new engine bay.
Peter what is the second battery cable for?

That goes forward to the front offside corner of the engine bay and feeds the electric power steering pump through a separate fuse which in turn is triggered by the fuel pump relay so it only runs when the engine runs.

So when the engine dies you loose power steering. Not the best of plans I think.

But can't the same be said for all power steering?

isn't that what happens with an engine powered power steering set up?

Indeed it does, but in this case you have the option to avoid it which is not possible with mechanical drive.
