So when the engine dies you loose power steering. Not the best of plans I think.

My engine die, come on!......................
isn't that what happens with an engine powered power steering set up?
Indeed it does, but in this case you have the option to avoid it which is not possible with mechanical drive.

Steve
None of this applies to my car........rotatehehe
What is this mystical power steering you talk of hehehehe

Remove the carburettor from the vixen, stripped it down and chucked it in the dishwasher on a hot wash.

Assembled with an overhaul Kit, increased the main jet size by five, assembled and fitted to car.

Now, no stuttering on the second choke and car runs pretty well! Thank goodness for dishwashers biggrin

You could do it for about £200.00.

Yes I've been tempted before when reading how you have done it. Need to find some space for the pump unit as the intercooler pipes take up room where your pump is mounted.
Looks like more spinach for now lickhehe

After diagnosing my alternator as being faulty (usual symptoms, 100A fuse continuity tested and all ok), I removed it and took it to a man to repair. He then set it up on a test bench and informed me the alternator is actually fine... Showed me it running and simulating power draw from ancillaries etc, great bit of kit those test benches! But at the same time I was kind of hoping I was an alternator repair away from having solved the problem.

So I spent an hour yesterday evening on the drive in the dark measuring the length of cable between the 100A fuse and the alternator with a piece of string (no 'how long' jokes please) and a torch-wielding girlfriend- I've now ordered a brand new length of 100A cable with shiny new terminals and some more cable protective wrap that should be here this week.

The fun continues! biggrin

When you checked the 100 amp fuse, can i just check you actually unbolted it from the holder?

No... frowngetmecoat

That will be the first port of call on Saturday, thank you.

For the sake of the tenner it has cost me I may well put the new cable on anyway whilst I have the car jacked up- I found a receipt in the paperwork from 2012 for a 'repair' made to that particular cable, so even if it's not responsible this time I figured it would still be wise to replace it whilst I have the alternator off. The protective wrap is broken in a few places too.

I can see why QBee asked if you unbolted the fuse as sometimes they crack and you don't know until you unbolt it

What guage of cable did you buy to replace it with?

Finally decided how I was going to mount my battery in the boot: Decided that as I had to modify the cage anyway I may as well have the terminals at the back so that they're protected by the bit of carpeted fiberglass panel that runs along there. I lose a bit of the shelf because the panel is slightly more forward, but I never put things on there anyway and I think that it looks neater this way around. I'll cut the cable down once I've run it for a bit just in case I change my mind

Spent a bit of time polishing / cleaning the chrome plastic centre caps from Wendy's refurbed wheels last night. They came up really well all things considered. Used Autosol M1. Fitted three of them.

Collected the final refurbished wheel whilst out and about today. Will 'seal' this evening ahead of fitting tomorrow night.
