Fitted forged pistons to rods.
Fitted new oil pump to front cover.
Cleaned newly powder coated rocker boxes.
Finished cleaning block in preparation of assembly.
Cleaned a mirade of other things.
Fitted spa oil pressure and temperature gauge.
Fitted AFR gauge in dashboard.
Fitted dashboard top.
Loads of other minor stuff.

The boring job of gaping and fitting piston rings tomorrow, ho hum.

A necessary evil unfortunately. Although I quite enjoyed doing mine, seeing as it was my first time rebuilding a V8. Proven by the fact I forgot to prime the oil pump with Vaseline and had to remove all the necessary again. Doh!

That engine is going to be very nice.

Decided to try and find the source of a water leak on the driver's side. The carpet was getting damp, not saturated and always around the seal at the bottom front of the door shut. Had already resealed the clutch/brake cylinder cover and looked for leaks around the pedals.
So using a watering can, carefully poured some water along the door window seal then ran walked round to the other side and watched for leaks. Amazingly there was a small trickle on the inside of the door at the rear. Opening the door again saw that this was now running along the door shut seal in the groove all the way to the front. This is the lowest part so it then trickled into the footwell down the sill carpet.
The problem was where the hood seal meets the door seal - there was too big a gap. Judicious application of glue to the hood where it is stuck to the frame plus realignment of the velcro joints and job done.
Just shows how a leak in the front is actually coming from the rear. ideascratchchin

Started to strip my Chimaera for a body off restoration. eek
As a virgin this is a steep learning curve smile

So what have i done so far:
Bonnet off
Battery disconnected and out. (that was not easy irked)
Seats out
Seat belt fixings out
Center console losse but hanging on the gear stick at this moment. (cant work out to get the knob off smile) Does it just unscrew from the lower part?

Lots still to do but I have started, that's something. beer

I can't help with your questions, but are you planning on doing a thread for this? I'd be most interested in seeing further updates of your progress, particularly as a first-timer- it's something I hope to have the space / nerve to do myself one day! biggrin

The best advice I could give someone just starting this is mark up everything then photograph it in situ.
This was a great help to me also

I think the gear knob has a grub screw on it somewhere you need to undo.

Gear knob sits on a threaded collar. The knob itself just unscrews and seats on to the collar.

Buy a pack of plastic takeaway dishes to put your nuts (and bolts and washers) in and label them as you go. You may well replace many of them with new, but at least you will know which is which, and the correct length, size and thread pitch of bolt for each place.

Thetes a number of very useful body off threads that detail the tasks and in some order so you do it in a methodical fashion.
These also go through the difficult bits and offer much good advice. Goodluck thumbup

Here's my gear lever with the knob removed. It just screws on/off as phazed says. smile

Thanks, but i have seen other photos that show the gear stick with a tread on it?
Is this typical TVR, or are there different male / female combinations?

I was trying to screw the whole gear stick off!!! eek
I thought that it did not feel right. Hope I have not damaged anything smile

Knob is threaded and the collar acts as a lock nut
