How did you get on with my old chassis? Was it useful for fabricating your bmw diff upgrade?
Hiya smile

Its in the garden have done nothing with it yet - It another thing on the list..

Going to see how I get on this year with the diff could go horribly wrong...I have just bought a racelogic 8 cylinder TC with flatshift and launch control so all the power (well as much as the tyres can hold) will be going to the diff evil

How are you getting on with yours ??

Careful, leaving it in the garden it might get rusty! Must be the only Chimaera with a planned 'launch control' in the world?

Mine is coming along slowly, two steps forward and one back with everything you touch. It is a running and driving example now with brakes(following a leaking master cylinder) stainless cherry bomb exhaust. No interior as yet but plan is to get mechanically sorted and get it through an MOT and move on from there. Wrapping the dash at the moment and everything I've touched broke irrespective of how careful I've been. These bloody cars fight you every step of the way!

Have you also added flat steel inserts between the outriggers and the centre sections of the chassis? I mean so that you can bolt the seats to something strong, not just through the fibreglass? When Str8Six North (Willow as we used to know them) build a new chassis, or refurbish one, they insert some steel for this purpose.

Here's what Mat Smith did on my car - the rear bolts go through this strip, the fronts through the chassis corner plates, as that is (fortunately) where my Tuscan seats need to be bolted. The chassis has been shot blasted and painted since this photo was taken.

God damn it!!! This is the second chassis ive done and the second time ive forgotten to do this!!

Rich (Sheel) god bless him smile had a perfect chassis so just used brace bars in the same way but just across and held by the 4 seat bolts. I thought it was a good mod and still offered far more strength than the standard design. A few cut to size bushes etc and it's not hard to do.

I came to the conclusion if I'm going to rip the complete floor out I'm fked anyway. It's more than enough strength, but the welded brace bars must be a structural add so a better idea.

Just moved house and got settled in. Small cul-de-sac and friendly neighbours. Anyway, late Saturday afternoon in the middle of trying to construct a piece of Ikea's finest Mensa level furniture and the doorbell rings. The neighbour diagonally opposite is stood there.

"Well, lets see it then".
"You what?"
"Under the cover, what is it?"
"Its a Chimaera"
"I've got a TVR you know"

Parked outside his house is a blue Griffith (in good shiny nick). I comment on its appearance.

"Well, lets see it then"
"Sorry, in the middle of assembling some Ikea stuff"
"Okay, I'll see it Monday. We can have a monthly meet in the middle of the road".

Wonder how long my new neighbours will be so friendly once we both start the cars?

Just shows how friendly TVR owners are - nobody else would have been as friendly.

After a couple of hours in Knaresborough last Sunday, returned to the car and noticed still had an hour and a half left on the parking ticket. Saw a chap walking towards the ticket machine so jumped out and handed him mine (yes, I know its naughty). He smiled and said, "Thank you and from a TVR owner too. Perfect!"

Bet you don't get that response from Audi drivers......just sayin'......rolleyes

Took it out of the garage and drove it for the first time in 6 months. Need to get the tracking done as I've just eyeballed it, but nothing fell off thumbup

Speedo isn't doing anything and roverguage isn't showing any speed so guess that it must be the sensor. Will driving it with the ecu seeing no speed effect anything?

Whilst I'm at it, my alarm fob has always had a transmission distance of the windscreen even with a new battery in it. Are they all like that, is there an aerial under the dash that I can play with?

It will only effect the idle speed so no issues.

Talking of which, my odometer is stuck on 99,999 and I really need to free it up. Any constructive suggestions? I am 364 days from the next MOT, so no hurry.......

General comments on this are giving the dash a hefty thump whilst driving and/or same whilst driving in reverse. Not sure what the success rate is.
Sent mine to Speedy Cables but it took 5 months.

I don't believe the odometer is part of the MOT test.

How annoyed will your insurer be if you bin the car on a limited mileage policy and the odometer is still showing the mileage that you registered it with whilst the car is 100 miles from home spread around a tree hehe

All good points.
My policy is actually unlimited mileage, but I am running a new engine in and want to know how many miles I have done.
On the MOT front, I have 364 days to make it move.

I will try the hard thump while driving suggestion, and some fast reversing (only between 2,000 and 4,000 rpm!)

I also get this problem periodically on 99's and so forth. I've found pressing the trip reset button several times in quick succession whilst driving along does the trick. Do keep your eyes on the road though and only carry out this process when on a straight!!!!
