I respectfully submit my membership application to the SRECC

'98 Chim 500

TVR Power Taraka engine rebuild giving 321 bhp and 355 ftlb
Tuscan front brakes, DS2500 pads and braided lines F + R
Nitro Suspension + full geo
SP12 wheels wearing Conti Sport Contact 3's
Carl Baker alarm/boot opener/hot start fix
ACT manifolds, sport cats and cherry bomb exhaust (fitted since the visit to Surrey Rolling Road and feels even more perky as a result)
DIY new carpets & refurbed interior

It's stops/handles very well now and is more than fast enough so I have no intention of fitting a blower/turbo/nitrous/flux capacitor etc

What Eric said above regarding suspension and brakes.

So what is your opinion my suitably re-engineering friends, should I rr my near standard 4.0 before I start the mods? Or should I mod abit more and then get it rr? And if it's the latter which should mods should I do first? Or should I mod and then mark Adams chip?
However, when it comes to engine mods, I'd respectfully suggest you take a long hard look and give serious thought to where you want to be in terms of power. Looking at your profile, I'd say you might be a serial modifier.... I'd also suggest, if you haven't already done so, get a drive or a ride in a properly quick Chim, and if it makes you grin stupidly and you think 'I gotta get me one of these' then you'll know not to start modding the 4.0...... Or, if you do, then go straight for a SC or turbo install with after market ECU. By modding the 4.0 but keeping it NA, you stand the risk of spending lots of time and money on something which, 6 months down the road, still won't be near quick enough for you, despite trumpets, induction kits, chips, and other expensive bolt on stuff.....

All just in my humble opinion......

Oh, and if you want a ride in a reasonably quick 500 I'll be visiting my daughter in Brampton in two or three weeks time.... Or join us at Snetterton on a track day and come for a ride round the circuit..... QBee will be there too.... next one is 10th April in the evening..

Chilli

Thanks chilli,

I can wait just researching at the minute, plus summer will soon be here so time to drive it with minimal fiddling until winter comes.

This SRECC isn't too bad you know.

I was out today, having fun in the lanes with the roof down when I caught up with a Jag XKR convertible (one of the 5.0 500hp supercharged jobbies). He obviously took offence at the little red car that caught him so he sped up. Fine, I wanted to go faster than he was going anyway which is why I caught him up in the first place. Whenever we caught up with slower traffic, he overtook and I followed. I guess we went from 40ish to 100ish (kmh of course!) and he did pull out a gap of about 10/15ft as he had the supercharger punch and was always in the right (automatic) gear but after that we were neck and neck on acceleration. This happened several times.

I was very impressed by my little 450 with minor mods.

I am also sane enough to know that if we were on the track he would have blown me into the weeds at higher speeds when his 500hp really came into its own. I guess that's where the MCC boys come in. smile

Was this with or without the switch ?.. You can be in two clubs depending upon the switch position smile

Because he was a TVR owner on a cruise in his other car. Said it was putting out close to 600bhp. And yes the switch was up i admit it. Was only running a 50 shot at the time tho.

Hi suitably re-engineered friends, couple of q,s
1 should I get my injectors cleaned, the car has done 63k and is still on originals as far as I know but the car runs well
2 trumpets first or induction pipe?
3 is it worth buying the induction pipe with the k&n as it has a piper cross already can I just use this?
4 which ever is first pipe or trumpets are act the best ones to go for or are there others?

Thanks

Rob

In my opinion, there's not much to choose between the Pipercross and K & N if you're not in iether camp (foam vs. cotton gauze) out of principle. The K & N holds its flow characteristics a bit longer between cleanings, but some would argue that its filtering characteristics are less than desirable.

Personally I think the biggest bang for buck is trumpets and thermal gasket with changing the 90 degree (actually more like 120 degree and 30 degree back) hose from AMM-plenum, however Tim says the long straight hose makes as much difference if not more as the latter - it's more expensive to buy and ship though due to its size. wink

Having injectors cleaned/tested is always a good idea. smile

Indeed, could be the best money you ever spent for the engine, or a total waste of time you will never know unless you do it

I have a spare set ready to be done
But can you run bigger ones on the 14 cxu and be ready for a new ecu?

The fueling will be all over the place without the ecu, do them both at the same time

Have chat with Jools (spitfire4v8)if you want to change injectors and he can re-scale a larger 20am and remap for you very cost effectively.
