After a few months or viewing, then walking away, and returning to see this poor neglected beauty, she is in the safe confines of a dry garage and out of the elements after 1 1/2 years of being stood still.

It's early days and I need to really need to get her up on stands to find out what needs doing to at least get her an MOT. She really is in a poor state. Hood needs replacing, bodywork attention, tyres, battery, electrics, brakes, gearbox selection, etc...

I look forward to building some great friendships on this forum and sharing the passion of these rare and beautiful beasts. After posting a few threads here recently it's clear the Chimaera community is a close nit one and willing to help, which bodes well, as I think I'm going to need all the help I can get.

No newbie thread is complete without some pics:

This has been her home for the last 18 months

And as of 18:30 today

Now her new home cloud9

In a sorry state frown

The first HT lead I tried to remove

I'm so excited about the prospect of bring her back from the brink.

Cheers beer

Well done. Can't believe it was left for that long. Good luck with restoring it.

There should be plug shrouds there for a start. The HT leads shouldn't go straight onto the plugs.

Magnificent beasts yes, but rare, no not yet. I've got one, but there are over 3500 Chimaeras in the UK somewhere! Admittedly, there's only about 750 Chimaera 450s if DVLA records are to be believed.

Looks like a car worth saving - I never understand people who just leave cars to rot. It like they don't need or want the money. I'm sure you have a to-do list, suggest driving is near the top ASAP !

Really?

I'm surprised there are so few left.

DVLA data at 'howmanyleft' shows engine sizes as follows:

http://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/tvr_chimaera#...

Allowing for some of those with engine sizes between 4500 and 5000cc are 'modified' or re-engineered cars, it gives us a figure of about 750 Chimaera 430 to 450s, and less than 400 Chimaera 500s which includes those with upgraded engines, at least those that the DVLA have been informed about. wink Leaving about 2400 Chimaera 400s.

Looks in better condition than the one I'm driving around in, well done for saving it. Throw a bottle of renovo on the roof and it'll be good to go thumbup

Don't know the part numbers but you can get them from any parts suppliers - they're standard items.

On the leads, there are threads on them in here - use the search.
About half a dozen good makes, about a dozen opinions on which ones to use! laugh
Mine are Lumenition, pale blue in colour, have been excellent since fitted.

Asking about leads Is opening a can of worms on here hehe

If the roof has no tears I would use a bottle of renovo on it before thinking about doing anything else, it's quite incredible what that stuff can bring back from the dead.

A lot of the Lucas stuff is no longer made, or very hard to find old stock. Watch the other replacement stuff as some is crap, rotor arms are one that pops up over and over.

Been ages since I looked at leads but the lead type is also dependant on the plug extenders on the spark plugs, you can get resistive and non resistive types depening of what leads you use.

I see you have owned a few TVRs in the past, so this should not hold too many surprises for you.
Best of luck with the project. thumbup
I really hate to see any of these cars go to the scrap heap.

I dreamed of something like a chimaera coming up as what we now seem to call "barn finds". Looking forward to more pictures and progress.

Excellent, another good thread in the making. To give some context to the restoration might we enquire what the purchase price was or thereabouts ? Also, what is the state of the chassis like ?
