I doff my cap to you sir.
I would love to do what you're doing. I'm to scared to do my own, going to leave it to the professionals.
I will read on with great interest.
Thanks Cokes. I will be a little apprehensive when making that first cut to the chassis so I know what you mean. But I want to push myself and learn how to do all of this stuff. Plus I enjoy doing it as much as I do driving the car.

What's your budget for buying your own welder?
Anything up to £500 roughly. Have you heard any reports on Parweld MIGs?

Seems Addyp likes them too. I have heard of them whilst researching all things welding. But hadn't come across 'Parweld' until I rented one last thursday...
Thanks for the recommendation Sard. You too Eddy.

I know we all laugh at the various states of decay we witness on TVR chassis' but pretty scandalous really not to mention lethal.

Not really scratchchin the spine of the chassis is the major part of the chassis and body support and even if you was involved in an accident it highly unlikely you could pull the seat belt anchorage and whats left of an outrigger thats become detached both ends through a 1.5" hole in the fibreglass tub, I see far worse more serious defects on much later cars/euro boxes i.e front coil spring failures (a worryingly regular occurrence) that have broken and punctured the tyre sidewall and we are talking cars of 5 years or slightly older eek and thats instant tyre deflation driving and considering that most of these outrigger problems can be spotted sooner then the owner cant be that fussed or bothered whistle

R Tech are great, the guys there are incredibly helpful, it has a 2 year return to base warranty, its a nice machine, it's compact for what it can do too, which makes it perfect for the hobby side of things.

It still amuses me that people complain that the quality of the TVR rustproofing is rubbish.
Well maybe it's not as good as it could be - but it would have added to the cost - should we be complaining it's only lasted 20 years plus, how many euro boxes of that age are still around?

What worries me is we know the chassis can (will) rot, but still spend loads of time polishing and buying aluminium bits and performance upgrades - when you should be underneath stabbing the chassis with a screwdriver.

It is a budget high performance car - compromises were made - they are well documented.

After a 4 month or so absence from working on the car due to a crushed disc, I am back at it.
The chassis is back from the screening & coating firm after finishing the welding.

I started priming it this afternoon and will finish tomorrow. Then top coat in silver and clear it after. Have made a start on the stress cracks in the fibreglass, but that is going to be an ongoing job well into next year, as the affected area is extensive. Have narrowed the colours down to either a pearl silver or black as far as the body goes. But no rush, so that'll probably change by the time it's ready to go to paint.

Just glad to back on the job again after such a long time off smile

Does anyone know of any other cars in need of serious TLC that are priced accordingly? I'm at the serious window shopping stage at the moment.

Hate to be a party pooper but where are your seat belt rear brackets? I can't see them on the rear outriggers.

Can be clearly seen here in front of the rear wheel.
