So my PnJ has been at Surface and Design for over 3 weeks now. They inspected teh car and sent an estimation for repairs to Equity.
I have had to make numerous calls to all parties involved to get things moving regarding approving the claim in order for the guys at S&D to commence their good work.
Then i received a text yesterday from Northern Assessors wanting to arrange to view the car!
Is this how these 'professional' people work?
Not happy. This farce has ruined any chances of winning this years NSCC as i will be missing at least the first race meeting at York at Easter and no doubt the following meeting a fortnight later.

I can empathise as I was in the same posiution 18 months ago. It is standard practice and all insurers will do the same.
Crashed my 450 and had on the surface some mild cosmetic damage. Problem was wishbones were bent badly and shock absorber mount had sheared. Quote for body repair and new wishbones hubs etc came to 8K. Assesor wrote it off on a market value of £11k, managed to negotiate up to £12k but still lost the car.
Not saying this will happen but some assesors without experience of GRP cars seem to have a low threshold.

I took the car to Blackpool at my own expense to save time hoping to get the car back by Easter.
Looks like i wasted my time.
The estimate for the insurers is over £5k. I had a guesstimated value of £10k on the car but now i realize that was low considering the amount of work and renovation the car has had recently. Also a lot of upgrades.
The engineer is viewing the car today so fingers crossed that there are no further complications.
I suppose if it is written off i can get the car back and turn it into a proper drag slag and pay off some debts

Sorry to hear that mate, though I would imagine S+D wouldn't be exactly cheap so wont help things. I had a claim on mine some years back when with Mannings and they were superb as were 'Option One' who did the work.
My repair was somewhat more significant than Derek's and Equity, the assessors and S&D got it sorted very quickly. S&D are no more expensive than any other 'quality' repair shop. Yes there are cheaper but then there are cheaper cars out there... you pays your money...etcPS Sorry you're having problems Derek.
I had similar problems a number of years ago. My 4.5 Cerbera had front and rear end fiberglass damage, the front damage was a little more significant (lost oil cooler and rad etc.) and smashed the wheels and exhaust.
The insurance sent out an assessor after a few weeks of arguing about the cost of repair and I then had a letter two weeks later informing me they were writing the car off. 12k repair bill (apparently) against 16k market value.
What really pissed me off though is I immediately rang them up and said I wanted to buy the car back (mint interior, good chassis and very strong engine). They said I could do so and they would sent me the details of the auction it was going to be put in a few months time. Next I hear I see a post on here with someone who just bought my car to repair from an auction!
fkers never even told me it was up for sale.

Cool, with you on most but over £5k for a same colour respray seems a little steep to me.PS Sorry you're having problems Derek.
PS; did you get my PM?
So the procedure is that Equity employ Northern Assessors to send an engineer to inspect the car which they did on Friday. I spoke to Equity and they say they are happy with the claim to go ahead but... the engineer has submitted the report to 'WNS' who have just promised me i will get an answer to whats going to happen this afternoon.
I guess WNS are a subsiduary that way up the reports and estimates then make the ultimate decision.
Surely this means good news doesnt it

Hopefully its good news Derek.
They seem too eager at around 75-80% of market value to write the car off which is a crying shame when its superficial damage. Surely its better to pay the repair cost than write the car off and pay you market price. I guess they hope you'll accept a low offer which is cheaper than the repair as most people need the money for their next purchase and cant stretch the process out 12 months to get what they should have had in the first place.
Mannings were also great with us.

The possible answer is that when the repair cost is 75% of the value of the car, write off gives the insurer the salvage return and certainty of cost. On a £16k car, £12 k of damage is considerable......and then finding, having committed to the repair, that there is further damage when the car is stripped down, quite likely and not a risk they will want to take. Also, when that much damage is repaired there is a big risk of the owner not being happy with the repaired car..
I have had two total write offs in the last 20 years. On both ccasions I was paid the fair value of the car. They called me to discuss, I discussed and was pleasant, and negotiated a mid-market price. They aren't out to screw you, IMHO, just to pay a fair price.

That was the procedure I went through Derek but S&D and I didn't wait for NA to actually get their finger out. Once S&D got the OK from Equity they went ahead iirc. I got the OK from NA about a week or so after the work had already started.I guess WNS are a subsiduary that way up the reports and estimates then make the ultimate decision.

Give David a call.

Ive been in contact with David. He had the unofficial nod yesterday. There is no major rush for me now as its too late for me as far as racing in the NSCC is concerned. Now i just want the car doing right and back in time for the UK power tour. Give David a call.
