So, on my '96 pre facelift Chim I have the horrible, wobbly, crappy Citroen mirrors. As expected, the brackets are knackered and the things point at the floor most of the time. I have the door entry buttons at the back of the car, so no worries there.

What are the options for replacing them? Anything else likely to fit?

VW Corrado are the usual choice if you don't want to fork out the extortionate price for replacements, although I have seen/heard of cheap repairs to the columns that usually fail and cause the wobble you speak of.

I've seen MKI Audi TT mirrors fitted and they look pretty good.

...almost. They are simple 'classic' style things available from nearly all kit car builder shops. The foot is a 45° pipe joiner that I milled out, drilled, tapped and painted.
