I recently adjusted the ride heights 155 rear 140 front , after putting 40 litres of petrol in the rear suspension dropped to 140 so the car sat level then the rear dropped even more with me and my son sat in the seats .
Is this normal or is it telling me the rear springs rates are far to low .

When "I" have mine set-up - corner weighting - it is done so with the fuel I would be carrying (Sprint/Hillclimbs - about 15/20 ltrs) and ME sitting in the car?? It's about performance & handling, not about ride-height millimetres when empty??
I suggest you try and set yours up similarly and then when your Son jumps in, you'll hardly notice??
But Daz, It's you car, do what you like?

He's right, Daz. My ride height, corner weighting and geo were done by Mat (who you look up to, I know ) with me in the car, my track tyres on and a full tank of fuel..
The son will save you money - no need to pay for the corner weighting. My car was so much better on track with 50 kg of wife in the passenger seat. Just keep him off the donuts.

This reminds me I must phone Mat to get my new sump fitted
You must indeed - he did a perfect job of mine, I was looking under the car yesterday afternoon and the bottom of my sump is completely dry, clean and shiny. Not a drop of oil anywhere to be seen.Don't forget to take your oil of choice with you, or ask Mat to get it for you, if you want something other than his stock stuff. I know how particular you are regarding Beastie's diet.

Actually, I thought this thread was going to be about Daz trying to drum up new business
It's all linear.
Suppose you have 250lb/inch springs and you add 500lbs to the car (petrol weight, people, luggage) you should see a drop of 2 inches.
If you then put on 500lb/inch springs, the same 500lb added to the car should drop it 1 inch.
(The above assumes all the weight is over one axle and in a horizontal position, in reality it wouldn't be applied to just 1 axle and also the spring is part of a fulcrum but that's the jist).
I'm sure more technical people will be along shortly.

I stuck a small lawnmower in the boot of mine last year (no don't ask) and the rear looked really low. It is quite surprising what an effect a little weight has.
When i go to track days i have two wheels and tyres, plus a jack, a compressor and some tools in the boot, and two more wheels and tyres in the car and it looks very low. My springs are 400/375 front/rear.

Weight added into the boot, will have a bigger effect on ride height than the same amount of weight added in the cabinWhen i go to track days i have two wheels and tyres, plus a jack, a compressor and some tools in the boot, and two more wheels and tyres in the car and it looks very low. I'm doing Curborough sprint then Shakey, QBee's doing all Curborough and Cadwell although I think that he should do all 3!
Kind of you to suggest it. My drag strip career started and finished at The Pod. I have a four storey tower to redecorate this summer, so plenty of chances to watch paint dry on an industrial scale Gassing Station | Chimaera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
