No frown not if you don't have a Dremmel or die grinder to remove the retainer lip then I strongly suggest you use a bearing fit Loctite style product to keep in place.

Could the engine or auxillaries be damaged if the if the belt was set to tight ?. Why is it the tensioner pulley moves when I rev the car ?

The strain needs to go somewhere ,not sure about fitting a fixed belt on all those pulleys .
seems to work ok on pre serp engines that dont have the tensioner... I think its just for ease of maint rather than anything else, you have to adjust it manually rather than the tensioner taking up the slack

Sorry, I meant where do I get the new mount, not a new bearing.

Phoned John today & took the plunge on his neat alternator bracket biggrin

John explained I might need to make some spacers up which all sounds pretty straightforward.

Anyone got any snaps of their JE aternator bracket spacers for reference?

Cheers, Dave.

PS: I'll not be missing that bouncing screeching sprung tensioner, plus it's worth going with the JE bracket just to wind the Goat Boy up laugh

The alternator bracket comes from here:

John Eales is THE Rover V8 God, he's probably built more RV8s than all the others put together, and mega powerful ones too yes

Nice bloke, call him on: 01455 202909

Some good snaps of the bracket in this post:

The bracket looks good, and I have considered it if I ever suffer belt slip due to the supercharger since this allows you to set belt tension and increase belt coverage on the crank pulley. The only thing that puts me off is that it does not utilise all of the alternator mounting points which looks a little odd IMO, and also the standard belt tensioner is so easy to use while it is still working and not squealing. But other than that it does look neat and removes a big lump off the engine. Perhaps it would be possible to mod the alternator to remove the 4th mount?

I still run the original spring tensioner but I have converted all pulleys to 8 rib , this matches the rotrex pulley ribs. Had a new tensioner pulley made with a decent bearing in it.

I agree, always thought the banana should be on the back of the water pump (you can fit sets all the way through timing cover) and a turnbuckle on the front so that both the floating alt legs are clamped.

Think two clamps is overkill TBH - on mine (at least), nipping up the pivot bolt alone holds tension in the belt. The banana clamp (now turnbuckle) just bolsters that (I am not suggesting no tensioner is needed before anyone jumps in). The redundant mounting point on the alternator lends itself to hanging the power steering pot off with a suitable bracket (a top hat spacer will be needed).

Pictures please. Out of interest before you fitted these which 7 grooves on the SC pulley did you use? And how much did you pay for these? Presumably from John?
