Drive shaft length
Discussion
Guys, does anyone know the length of the drive shafts please? as I want to upgrade them before the inevitable happens. Ideally I want to get them ordered and delivered so I can swap over weekend rather than take them off, measure then have to wait a couple of weeks for delivery.
cheers.
cheers.

Am i correct in thinking those of us with BTR diffs fitted as standard require a pair of shafts of equal length. Are those with GKNs different lengths? Or is it just Neal has mounted his new BTR differently hence requiring his bespoke lengths?
I made brackets to fit my BTR diff in GKN chassis and there was about an inch difference where I decided to mount the diff. Im sure they are normally the same size somebody must have a set out the car they can measure.Just measured my old one and 48cm. It still has the old CVs on so I can't guanantee to the mm.
So yes Derek I do have an old standard jobbie sitting here down south if it is of any use for such a good cause. Just need to get a way to get it to you if you don't get an offer of one closer.
Has done 100K as have CVs on it. Its partner was snapped by a 300bhp 5L motor so I don't fancy its chances of getting you anywhere other than home

In my experience they are the same length.
A BTR and GKN have a slightly different chassis (if that makes sense)
I had to replace my GKN in my 1995 Chimaera as parts could not be obtained to fix it (at the time) and the best option was to go for the BTR.
To do this I had to fabricate new front diff chassis mounting points and rear bracket (as this was easier than new mounting brackets and modifying the rear of the chassis.
I used the original driveshafts and have had no issues (I also checked that they had full articulation before fitting the shocks/springs).
If you use the original speedo sensor you have to modify the mounting bracket for this as well and the prop shaft is very tight to get on with the chopper in place (I have subsequently moved this to the output shaft and removed the chopper so that the prop shaft is easier to get in and out if necessary)
