Must be the week for oil pressure problems.....had a situation few weeks back on the way to the Burligh meet, oil gauge dropped to 0 on the M1 while giving it some stick, no oil light on so replaced sensor last week end. Out today for a run to the Griff Growl, giving it some stick.... oil pressure drops to 0 again, seems to be on hard acceleration only, no oil light warning, tho it does work, going to drop the sump in the morning .... unless any of you know different, my first thoughts are oil pick up pipe

That's the 1st job in morning bit disconcerting to see the gauge dropping like a stone when you are chasing a Griff, didn't do it under hard braking only hard acceleration ??

Hi Al sorry didn't see you mate, new sender fitted last week, suppose it could be an electrical fault but strange its just on acceleration will have a poke about but its no hassle to drop the sump with the ramp now

I've been using Garry's ramp, checked all my bolts this morning, less than half the time to do with a ramp, mega Rich.
Goodluck mate.

Mine is doing this at the moment too and will drop to zero on a hill. Sometimes it will drop suddenly whilst cruising and then come back again. Never an oil light. To go up and down like this makes me think it must be the sender or wiring.

Think you would have heard big end knock at least if your oil pressure had dropped to zero.

The RV8 in my old Range Rover used to knock loudly for around 2 seconds on start up which used to sound pretty scary. I changed the oil pump gears and the pressure releif valve and spring but no different. Drove it like that for years as it was just a low-level competition off-roader. A couple of years back I dropped the sump and found it full of thick oily custard with a small well around the oil pickup pipe. Cleaned all that out, now no knock on start up and luckily the engine still sounds lovely. These RV8s are pretty tough really.

I'd not take the sump off... its electrical... if it was actualy going to zero you'd know about it by now!... engines don't run long at zero pressure before they have done in the bearings... 10 secs at speed and its all over wink

.....anyway.. back to Daz.. any news yet smile

In reply to my pressure drop problems, dropped the sump and there was prob about 15% coverage of the pick up gauze with silicone from a previous sump removal, cleared it all out, dropped the pick up off and blew it out, dropped a main bearing cap and it was perfect inside,
Have reassembled all but not tested as have been taken ill and currently residing in University Hospital Coventry, hopefully my repair will be as quick as the Chim, I will report back as soon as I can test it but I am hopeful that under full bore and load it was probably the problem

Mine did this a couple of months back. I had oil pressure (according to the gauge) on accelerating, but it disappeared when i braked.

The connector on the wire to the sensor was so loose the wire would have fallen completely off if not stiff. It's immediately under the crankshaft pulley, a single wire. Jack the car up and crawl under the front, crimp the connector a bit and shove it back on. Job done.

The oil pressure relief spring valve is stuck solid ,could this of caused by the sudden Deluge of oil or is just a million to one coincidence ?

What causes it to get stuck and as a precaution does it need replacing with a new oil pump ? Not had a look at the shells and crank yet .

Just a really odd coincidence.

Nothing to do with the oil pump, a completely separate item to the oil pump.
