Derek, I just had to have mine done - bad rawk down the nearside front to back, concrete post I think, hidden behind foliage. Not happy. Anyhow, got most out buffing but there was damage to the gelcoat on a couple of edges. Someone recommended Rob Cairns of Carfix - brilliant job - perfect paint match and finish and not expensive. pm me for details if need be, can definitely recommend him.

Chimpongas did a brilliant, step by step, treatise on removing scratches from paintwork a few months ago, when the local tossers scratched his pride and joy, and his car as well.
It tells you how to do the job (without removing your anorak) in such detail that you can just adapt it to the severity of your damage. I will see if i can spot it.....hold your breath
Didn't know he'd posted on it but;
I saw the photos before, and the results in the flesh afterwards.
You'd need to be looking pretty hard to find it.

Alex gave me some similar (similar to CoG's post) advice a while back for dealing with some nasty rock chips; the results were excellent, and I hadn't painted anything more complicated than a fence previously.

Looking at your pics Derek, I think you have a fairly easy job of hiding that providing your touch in paint is a close match.
