hello,

my starter is just making a loud single click when I turn the key, if I try a few times it starts up.

The starter was new about 18 months ago. Is it likely to be a faulty starter?

What year is the car? The early ones have different wiring on the starter circuit. If not an early car, there are lots of suggestions and tests to be found via search.

My early car didn't route through the imobiliser on the ignition to starter motor. The ignition switch appeared to take quite a lot of load and was worn.

Have you rechecked the basics such as your earth connections?

I played russian roulette when my starter motor was doing the same thing, knew it wasn't an immobiliser issue as I could bump start the car as my driveway is on a slope.
However, I lost the game one day when I parked up on the flat and had to get 2 strangers
to give me a push reinforcing the TVR reliability image! rolleyes
Fitted a new uprated starter motor at the weekend and now spins over faster than ever. rotate

Yep did the same, my starter played up for at least 6 months before it went (normally fixed by a swift bash with an extension bar down through the manifolds). When it finally gave up I had it rebuilt by a local company. Fine since

+1 on this. yes In my case an additional earth strap was installed (just after a full body off, coincidentally!) and solved the problem.
