Owing to the nature of our billiard table smooth roads, the passenger footwell carpet/wall thing keeps flopping forward resulting in a nice collection of wires and the ecu bouncing around on top of the wife's feet every time i hit anything larger than a swan vesta, what on earth holds the thing up?

It just appears to sit there hoping for gravity and shallow sleeping policemen, sadly its easily defeated by west sussex back roads which are bumpy and the vidcious local sleeping policemen which cause it to fall forward every time i go over one..

what am i missing that holds the thing in place?

No more nails tape. Good for random bits of carpet, heat shield under the bonnet, random things under the top dash that rattle...

Do you have any carpet missing from the footwell sides or upper side?

I ask because in my car it is quite a firm fit when I push the vertical panel in. I have to use the finger hole in the top to pull it out when required.

Bostik impact adhesive. Not sure whether the carpet would ever be removable again afterwards though. I used it to secure the boot carpet and even the upside down bits haven't dropped off. You need to let the glue go off on the carpet a little before pressing it home - see the details on the product.
