Fans don't seem to be turning on automatically. Work fine with the switch under the dash. I bent one of the pins on the otter switch whilst working on the car. Bent it back, but as said, fan aren't coming on automatically. I'm assuming this is the otter switch, but would rather check everything else first!

Cheers

Pull the two terminals half off the otter switch, exposing the bare metal. Start the engine and run it until well over 90 degrees. If fans cut in, then fine.

If not, with engine running, put a screwdriver across the two terminals. If fans cut in, then your otter switch is knackered. If they don't, check the fuses in case the switch inside the car somehow bypasses the fuse(s)

A spare fuse will do the job to connect the two terminals when they're pulled from the switch. If the fans kick in right away with the ignition on (engine hot or cold) then it's your otter switch, as Qbee says.

Talking to a few people, the otter switch does seem to give up with monotonous frequency. I now know some people who carry a small lenth of wire in the car around 50mm - 75mm long with a male spade connector at each end as an instant by-pass for just such an event. Happened to a chum last weekend. The fans will run constantly but if you're in traffic this is infinitely preferrable than them not running at all. yikes

Replacement otter switch is a Ford part, can't remember which car specifically but I'm sure others can offer the correct advice. Good luck.

I just went to my trusty autospares place, told them I wanted a fan thermostat to fit in the radiator, and they did a search on TVR Chimaera compatibles, and sold me one for £12.99. There was a huge range, so I specified one to cut in at 92 degrees and cut out at 85.

Alternatively, if you are self-employed and busy, just pick up the phone to TVR Power, order K0094 and pay him £21.59 plus postage for the factory-spec part, and spend the half an hour you just saved earning more than the difference in price.

Do bear in mind you will need the appropriate socket to fit it. I think it was 27mm, but I cannot lay my hands on it right now. it might be a tad larger. There is no way you will get an adjustable on it.

That style of switch was fitted to plenty back in the day (quite a while ago actually) Ford, Audi, VW etc

'Twas the otter. Dan Taylor popped in a new one whilst I was there. Fans now switch on automatically.

Thanks for your replies.
