New Chim owner!

Picked up my new (and first) Chim last night and I am already smitten.
Its a 1997 (serpertine and newer gearbox) 450 Estoril Blue with cream interior.
Dashboard is a little cracked (already have a Levin dash at home waiting to go in), bonnet is very swirl marked and the front end needs a respray but it is just fantastic.
71,000 miles, and always looked after by specialists.
Outriggers done end of 2012!
Car seems to surge just a little but when on very gentle throttle at about 1300/1400 RPM but that could just be me not used to the throttle yet!
Doesn't seem to have had the cam changed in its life but all seems good so far!
My only real complaint is that there is no interior light (which sounds daft but I am often getting in and out of the thing during dark hours). Other than that I might even class it as perfect (to me anyway). Look forward to seeing some of you around soon no doubt!

Just the one. But mine's permanently turned off. I've left it on by accident in several cars in the past and flattened a battery or three. Anyway, it's a chimaera, who wants to drive one when it's dark? 
Perhaps mine is turned off as well!Me, I want to drive it in the dark, in fact, I want to drive it all the time.
In a way I hope that want lowers slightly over time, else I can see myself racking up some crazy mileage!

Do they not come on and off with the doors? Is it more of an on or off switch then?
The switch has three positions - on, off and courtesy. Up to you to work out which is courtesy (ie coming on and off with the door switches).Don't fiddle too much with, or disconnect, the door switches. IIRC they are related to the alarm and central locking.
Have you found the internal central locking button yet? Try not to discover it having leaned on the button after opening the door and when getting out, and slam the door with the keys inside the car.......
And we await the " my dash lights have all stopped working" thread.
That one normally arrives on about day 7.....
They are great cars - mine is doing 12,000 miles a year, because I love driving it so much and don't use it for work. Amazing how often I volunteer to do the shopping and how far away the shops are.....
OK, here are your orders for maximum enjoyment.
Cancel all other plans for this coming weekend and get yourself, the car, SWMBO if you have acquired one , and your camera over to Blenheim Palace, Woodstock, Oxford on Bank Holiday Monday, I think it opens around 10.00 until 4.00
It's the annual Chimfest, S Club Heaven, and Speed Six meeting. Last year Chimfest and SCH attracted 153 cars when it was in north Notts.
In April the TVRCC Spring gathering at Burleigh House, Lincs, attracted 640 cars.
My guess is that this one will attract 300+ cars.
Don't worry about the state of your paintwork, just get y'ass down there and meet lots of other owners and have a shuftie at their cars.
Try not to trip over your tongue.......

That sounds like a plan. I have another car related activity to partake in in the early hours of the morning, but should be able to make it afterwards. I have alreay found the 'lock the doors from inside button', fortunately while just playing around with the controls.
I also have discovered the conviniently located near your knee light on and off switch!
I had a brief moment of panic yesterday when it wouldn't start at the petrol station after filling up, but a quick click on the remote/immobiliser and away went the fuel pump and she fired right up!

Good for you - getting out and about already. BTW, there's nothing quite like a good run out just after dawn. Only Tesco lorries on the roads, great time of day.You can pre-book, but its getting late in the day for that, and the savings aren't that great, and if it's a normal BH Monday monsoon, or the car won't start, or you just get a better offer, you will feel a bit bugged that you bought an advance ticket. I would pay on the gate and not tempt the weather gods.

and the faired in lights that the Chimp world so enviously try to copy….

If your car has an aftermarket alarm, it may have been connected to the interior light circuit as a shortcut, but disconnecting the light in the process, because if you turn the light manually you would set the alarm off.
Does the interior central locking button work ? That,s another shortcut for a new alarm.
The wiring on these cars can be quite difficult to fathom unless they are one of the few experts that are about.
