Rain stops play!
Discussion
I had great bank holiday weekend out in my Chim; that was until the Monday when it peed it down all day.
Unfortunately I didn't manage to get the car back in the garage tucked up nice a dry and when I tried to start in Tuesday morning it turned over but wouldn't fire.
I then discovered that the passenger footwell had 2" of water and the ECU and relays were bathing in it. Arrg!
I couldn't do anything but cover the car up this week and keep the ECU and relays on the passenger seat to dry out.
This morning I decided to tackle the problem. I replaced the relays and tried to start the car. It turned over again but didn't fire.
The fuel pump was not running so I checked connections and gave it 12 volts direct. It's working fine.
I then checked the inertia switch, it's working ok but is not receiving volts from ignition circuits. so no volts at the pump either.
The alarm fob open and closes the car and dash lights all come on as expected so I am now at a loss as to what it is.
Can anybody explain what each of the three relays in the ECU loom do, one is on a black connector, one on a blue connector and the other is on a black with green top connector. There are also two fuse holders in the loom, I don't know what these are for either.
Any advice kindly received.

Previous post explains the relays etc. This might give you some extra info.

I have been told that the big fuse protecting the fusebox is actually 80 amp.

This big fuse in the footwell will stop the car from running if blown. it should I believe be 80 amps, but may be 100 amps.
Not to be confused with the other 100 amp big fuse, which is between alternator and battery. This is fixed to the chassis under the car, drivers side, and will not stop the car from starting. It will stop the battery charging from the alternator if blown.

You do have an 80 amp fuse in the spaghetti on top of the battery, but might not have realised it's there. It's in line in a thick brown cable, I think, and is inside a black holder about 1.5 inches long and quite liely wrapped in black electrical tape.
I will drag my arse off the sofa, get the Leven half cover off the car, and take you a photo......back in a few minutes.

Battery shot is a dfferent issue - they only have a 6 year life.
Right, the fuse. It is really buried. I pulled most of the spaghetti into the footwell and couldn't find it, but I know its there, so I pulled more wiring and eventually found it, two brown wires each side. It only comes out as far as the rear upper lip of the battery. It is in a black case with a folding top, and looks like this.

ECU is fine, I checked this first before I started. It was clean and dry fortunately .
My fusebox has relocated to behind the passenger seat so there is no wiring above the battery apart from the main terminals that feed the car.
How close to the fuse box is the 80 amp fuse? I might need to take out the passenger seat to gain access to the whole loom run.

This is a little after the horse has bolted for you but to all Chimaera owners; I had a new rear window fitted (great) but this was done in October 2013 and throughout the winter I had leakage into the passenger footwell. All winter I didn't have the roof off but as soon as I did, in Spring and replaced the hard section of the roof again all the ingress of water stopped- I assume that the company that fitted the new window just didn't quite put the roof back on square?

Well most of the loom at the ECU end is exposed and it not there. I can see the two large brown wires at the fuse box end, so I can only assume that if this fuse is along the loom its behind the seat bolster, so its going to have to come out.
l take it the fuse box mod was done before you bought the car ?. l am sure the fuse will still be there. As only a dull witted person would remove it completely, or it could have been a heath Robinson job, l hope its just the fuse. lt just annoys me that people tinker with these cars thinking its TVR and easy to modify, but sell it on leaving a possible death trap for the unwary buyer . sorry rant over.
