Is this a better idea than a mark Adams chip? I presume this makes the car mappable? Has anyone got any experiences or better ideas that don't cost ££££££

The MA chip will make the car mappable by Mark Adams.

Megasquirt is the cheapest option and has been fitted to many happy TVRs.

I purchased my kit from Phil Ringwood and Dale Bladen (Bailey Performance) fitted it and did the intial map.
Both good guys and very reasonable.

I have since tuned my 328bhp 450 on the fly for economy and can easily achieve 30 mpg on a run.

Very happy with it.

The second map option suits me as it retards the ignition map when i activate the nitrous sytems.
Works very well and i would say its all we really need for our V8s, whether NA or FI.
IMHO

Jools remapped my 530 on his rolling road on the Lucas ECU for a very reasonable sum!

What is it you are you looking to achieve by spending money on either a Mark Adams chip or an ECU upgrade?

Mainly ignition control it makes a big difference. New efi loom to replace old crumbling ones and not being tied down to one person for mapping.

Go on Matthew you know it makes sense for your next upgrade

Ignition upgrade is funnily enough the next thing on my list. I should really just leave the car as it is and just drive it as it is running perfectly since Mr Adams last mapped it. The temptation of one of Dom's MBE offerings may be too much to resist. Especially as he now has ODB2 interface working so I can pull info from the ECU to a standard code reader and overlay speed, revs etc to my GoPro.

You are a bad influence!

Anyone heard of or used this guy? http://www.megasquirtuk.co.uk. Site looks abit cheap and so do the prices. Not sure if that's good or bad.

The phrase, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" springs to mind Matt. Although I have an omex piggy backing for the sparks, I stuck with the 14CUX cos once its mapped properly you never need to touch it again!

That's my thinking as well, especially as you also have a 'keep it (looking) standard' approach Matthew.

You can keep it looking standard with aftermarket too.
You can still leave the distributor distributing the sparks, but under ecu control, and you can leave the AFM in there and bore it out to be less of a restriction.
I'm involved with a project where I'm fitting a throttle body in place of the AFM but keeping it looking like the AFM for a one-off way of getting around another problem on the engine whilst keeping the standard look ..
Going aftermarket doesn't mean losing the standard look of the engine bay if that is what you want.

Another happy customer here. smile

Still have the Lucas ECU, but coupled with a few other bits and the car has been transformed. Much smoother throughout the rev range, lumpiness and shunting at low revs gone and a few extra ponies and torque for good measure.
