I seem to be feeling a lot more vibration from the road than normal, like you've got a flat tyre. The number of times I have got out to check for punctures is getting silly now.

Have checked tyre pressures and springs for damage, all seem OK.

However, tyres are in need of replacing very soon. Can low tyre tread remaining cause vibration like this or is it likely to be something else like shocks ?

Cheers.

At what speeds do you experience the vibration? For example, does it manifest itself from 50mph?

Could be as simple as goosed prop UJs or just loose prop bolts.

Could also be as simple as a wheel weight come off.

I noticed a similar vibration just before my last track day - was a missing wheel weight. You could also have flat spotted a tyre. First port of call is the tyre place, get all four inspected and put on the balancer.

If you are about to replace the tyres...do it now and retest, instead of paying for balancing twice.

Two loud clonk incidents that had me looking for bits fallen off the car or dropped spanners turned out to be flying wheel weights. The stuck on ones do tend to come unstuck. I gaffer tape over mine......and have still lost one.

You've checked the springs, did you check the dampers? A knackered shock will bounce about like a flat tyre.

Could also be a not perfectly round wheel.I had an out of true rear wheel after a spin on a track day (only thing I could think of anyway).Mine started to get really noticeable at a ton. biggrin

yes and tyres. I flat spotted a tyre on the rear of a calibra because the brake was seized, spent 6 months driving around with an annoying rumble because I couldn't be bothered to change it

Check the inside tyre wall for any bulges or imperfections.

I had this, turned out to be buckled and twisted, generally shagged. Was ESP bad at 70+.

This ^ when tyres age you have a stronger possibility of the carcass failing causing deformities/bulges etc

Mis shapen tyre, lost tyre weight or bent alloy would be my first port of call. Your local tyre place should be able to pop the wheels on their balancer and tell you if any of that is the problem.

I had a vibration at >60 but it was a cyclic thrumming noise and the car was shaking. It was a similar vibration to an out of balance wheel. Turned out the prop UJ hadnt been greased for many years. After it had been disassembled, cleaned and repacked with grease the vibration was gone. IIRC the UJ grease nipple can be hard to get to due to the exhaust to it gets overlooked during servicing.

I've also had failed damper and soggy springs but that manifests itself as unpredictable handling.

It is most noticeable at low speeds. Feels like you can feel every bit of the, like you would with a flat tyre. No unusual noises.

Car has just passed MOT so inner tyre sidewalls should be good but I will check, good idea. Similarly leaking shocks would have been picked up in MOT I would have thought.

Prop UJs were replaced or maintained around a year ago during a body-lift chassis job.

Think I will just replace the tyres, balancing etc and see what it's like then.

I have just had 4-wheel alignment done following a steering rack overhaul. Can incorrect camber or toe cause this ?

It didnt all happen at once, this is over a period of about 8 years but yes, soggy springs and seized dampers make for some very interesting handling.....

I have a very slight vibration that seems to come in somewhere between 60-70, at first i thought it was the prop uj's, so when i fitted my new exhaust i also did the prop UJ's as a matter of course, but its still there. I noticed this week that i have no splitter on the front, just the holes where it used to be bolted, could this cause a vibration ?
