Oil pump prime?

Evening all
I've got a preserp 4.6, had to remove the oil filter and pump base tonight to get out a stuck relief valve.
Do I now need to prime the pump when putting it back together as i've read some conflicting things online?
Any tips on this?

Yes i would. Just pack the pump with vaseline.

Thank you, just need to get the poppet out of the pump base now
