Should my chimaera 450 have pocketed Pistons as standard? It's not an hc car.

I'm guessing land rover never specced the cams that tvr did so didnt need the extra valve clearance pocketed pistons grant.

Don't forget these RV8s are all TVR builds not LR though , and your correct the 4.0 & 4.6 from LR did not have cut outs . Like everything with TVR there may be 450 models without cut outs too, only Power would know this for sure.

Am I right in thinking that these pistons open up a better choice of cams?
I've been contemplating swapping mine but got a little bewildered with choice and does/doesn't have pocketed pistons.

Formally NCK, north Coventry Kawasaki

(Just to muddy the water's further)

In a way this isn't surprising. TVR Power wasn't always a subsidiary of TVR Engineering - It was started as NCK (North Coventry Kawasaki) by Graham Nash. He built fast drag bikes like this. He then got into tuning the Rover V8 (Several RV8 based TVR engine parts have been imprinted with NCK over the years). NCK then became TVR Power and a subsidiary of TVR Engineering. Graham Nash exited shortly after and now TVR Power has been spun off from the factory IIRC.

so if I call Tvr power they should be able to tell me, is that correct? Is there someone specifically I should speak to?

Just pop a borescope down a plug hole; then you'll know for sure

Aldi regularly do a scope for about £70 I think, useful for checking outriggers too.

Probably worth asking, why did you want to know to the original poster?

I have been speaking to Joolz at kit and classic about a new cam and a map, he then spoke to rob at v8d who asked if the car was an hc or not which would then determine if I could have a stealth of if I had to have the mc1. I thought the only cars that didn't have pocketed Pistons were the non hc 400's. Hence the question. Bore scope is a good idea.

Yes even my 430 BV has pocketed pistons, it is needed for valve clearance - if you up the compression you better need a 24v battery to start the thing haha!

are these pockted Pistons? Also does this make my 450 an hc if it has them, this is not the actual image but they are the same as what I have seen using an endoscope down the spark plug hole.

I must admit I have never heard of an hc 450 but others had caster doubt about if the 450 had a high lift cam hence the reason for checking as I would like a stealth cam.
