I now have the HiSpec four pots with 283mm grooved discs . They seem to work well ,can`t test them until the pads have worn in

I was over cautious and could of got away with the 300mm discs under 16" wheels .

The pictures are behind 17" wheels but since then the 16" road set has been fitted. They look a`lot more snug behind the 16" wheels .

Look good ....but now you will always think "should have gone bigger "every time you look at them

I predict 2 weeks before a new thread with new discs fitted.

Larger discs are for aesthetics ,I don`t think you will notice the difference between 283 and 300mm discs .

Thanks Peter ,I do have very nice nuts laugh They were advertised on classifieds and while back .

I would not be surprised if these discs come up for sale in a short
time, as a plumber wants to change them for aesthetic reason.

Yes you are correct but the four pot 283`s are more than adequate for any track day and spirited driving

Its a light weight car !

You're right Daz. These are the kit from Hans aren't they? I'm planning on this setup as part of my winter rebuild. Which pad did you go for? I'm thinking Mintex 1144 as they work from cold & only need to work at high temps for 2-3 minutes.

I have the Yellow stuff pads ,they do not work as well until slightly warmed up .You have to apply slightly more pressure but you still stop ok .

Maybe the red stuff would be a better option .

If you can get them, try the Pagid Blues - a revelation on the 887/888 Ford calipers.

Hi, I have also bought the kit from Hans and will be fitting over the winter. With the change to four pot callipers do I need to change the master cylinder. As when fitting 4 pots to my Ducati, from 2 pot, I needed an increase in master cylinder piston diameter.

No need, it all stays the same.

Just measured the gap with the 16" wheels fitted ,I have 20mm spare so if everything went well i would have 3mm spare for the 300mm discs.

Just been out for a drive ,apart from the patchy light pattern which was disappointing the car drove very well .

I took Jools advice and fitted decent quality 5mm spacers ,the car does not pull to the left ,that has been a problem since ownership .

16" front wheels

Hi Daz
How are you getting on with this brake upgrade now it has all had time to bed in, I have the same kit but specified the Mintex 1144 pads which squeal like a pig, I am thinking of changeing to the Yellow stuff pads, just wondering how you are getting on with them.
Cheers Kev

I run DS2500 which are very good.

They started squealing a bit a couple of weeks ago so I popped the pads, applied Copperslip to the backs of them and the squealing has disappeared completely.

Try it.

Ive tried all sorts to stop the Mintex squealing, I used anti squeal shims + copper slip, then I was told by the guys at Hispec that You should not use copperslip with ali calipers as it can cause corrosion!, they recommended CeraTek lubricant, but this has made no difference, I have even tried chamfering the leading and trailing edges. None of this has made any difference.
Last weekend I did fit a set of DS2500's and managed to do a couple of hundred miles to get them bedded in, the squealing is better but it returns once they get warmed up after a run. I was going to try some anti squeal backing next.

Another tip.

Clean everything up and put a dab of clear silicon, (cheap bathroom sealant will do) on the backs of the pad.

This stops them rattling and squealing and is easily pulled off when changing pads.

Just wondering if Daz has yet found out that he actually still has 11.5mm clearance when going from 283mm to 300mm disks, not the 3mm he calculated?
He had 20mm clearance with 283mm disks, so if he increases the disk diameter by 17mm to 300mm, he will increase the radius by 8.5mm, thus reducing his clearance by only 8.5mm

I have 324mm disks and quite neat Bremsport callipers, by which I mean they have quite a small profile. Looking at them, I have often wondered if a carefully chosen style of 16 inch wheel would fit, rather then the 17s I have.

If anyone is planning a brake upgrade this spring and wants to test this sort of thing out, please get in touch.
