Well I would go for quaife internals with forged selector forks, box straight out and back in again, check out gearbox man as he is the one doing the quaife bits. I also went with shot peened option. Now you have a choice if your running that sort power gearbox conversions or mods are not going to be cheap. So I guess it comes down to how much do want to spend and how much faffing about do you want to do. I went easy option upgrade the T5
Of course next thing will be the longevity of the clutch........ Yup had the big helix that was ste after 2000 miles, mcleod twin plate so far so good
Oh then there is the diff, I went quaife with that too.....

Surely a lot of this comes down to driving style and mechanical sympathy - on road tyres, the torque will overcome traction long before mechanical limits are reached? I hope... Accept that's not going to help on the strip/track/when used in anger etc
This ^ my bet would be on a fault developing 1st rather than a blow up i.e losing 5th you don't strike me as a tranny abuser Mac seriously though I would wait for something to give ...... if ever torque in your case is fairly linear (high but kind) its the shock loads that spit the gearbox internals IMO where as banging through the cogs and clutch popping Edited by Sardonicus on Wednesday 22 October 09:38
Where as i do see myself as a tranny abuser.
I had my T5 rebuilt by John Reid at Readman racing with a few upgrades.
All i can say is what a nice guy John is and the work was very reasonably priced.
The box has suffered all sorts of abuse and driveshafts have snapped but the box still works as smooth as it did when i fitted it.

I'd certainly be interested in any recommendations. My fear is if I leave it as is, it will eventually go at some point and there is nothing worse than having all that power and being afraid to use it, seems pointless. I have some uprated driveshafts to fit and the John Eales clutch I fitted for nitrous use [standard couldn't cope] is doing a great job so far.
I want to weigh up costs etc, and obviously the easiest would be to have the T5 worked on as Derek and Nigel have had [can you give me some details Nige?] Then there is the appeal of having a sixth gear, but which box and what adaptations have to be accounted for.

Hi blokes,
I realise my T5 box may be on borrowed time pushing 554 lb/ft of torque, so what's the opinion on the best upgrade? My T5 re-worked or another box altogether? I've experienced no problems so far but,,,,,.
I also keep going for another gear such is the response in 5th
At your age you should be thinking about sticking an auto in it...I realise my T5 box may be on borrowed time pushing 554 lb/ft of torque, so what's the opinion on the best upgrade? My T5 re-worked or another box altogether? I've experienced no problems so far but,,,,,.

A reworked T5 is not going to defy physics, the gears and shafts are still very small compared to a TKO600, and there is no way around this, each component/tooth is still under lots more load, due to surface area even if it is made of unobtainium.
A Tremec 6 speed will compromise your exhaust size/clearance, personally if i were you its a TKO600 with a 3.08 diff..
Why dont you have a drive of mine and get a feel for the box/ratios?
