I have just been checking out my 98 450 using rover gauge and it has a fault code 21 map/fuel resistor out of range and is running map 0, I don't think this is correct but it may have been mapped before I brought it. On further investigation I can't find a resistor like I had on my 400 original or modified I did find a plastic plug with a few black wires all leading back into the loom which I don't recognise, I don't think its related but I also have a faulty lambada sensor. It does smell fuely and has pre cats in and and act y.

Just seen on another thread that map 0 is limp home mode which can't be good. Would this be caused by a faulty lambda? Also I saw that map 2 is uk non cat map, how do I get it to run this map?

Thanks

The tune resistor is held within a clear plastic shrink wrap. It's someway up the loom from the ecu.
The black plug with lots of black wires is not it.

It normally connects via a blue two pin plug. Coming out of the main loom.

The tune resistor is in the plastic sleeve.

Done some more digging, found the connector where the resistor should be but wasn't luckily I had a resistor from a previous car so I am now running map 2 fully de catted, would limp home reduce power? Also change lambda's however since doing that rover gauge isn't showing the lambda' graphic at all. Can you help with that blitz? confused

That's because Map 2 as selected by a green tune resistor is an open loop tune, so there's no need to show lambda data as it's now out of the loop.

The map zero can be shown on power up, before the engine is started, but it should always switch to the correct map with the engine running. Green tune is not ideal by a long way, as its likely to be a bog standard Range Rover map, unless you have it specifically mapped for green tune, or a Tornado chip. You need to get a resistor for white tune- its 3.9 k, you can get some from Maplin or Ebay for a few pence. Once you are running the correct tune, give the ECU a reset by unplugging it for a short while to clear any error codes, then take the car for a run and see if the lambda error reoccurs- this will be seen with the short term trim not cycling, and possible 100% positive long term trim as well on one side normally. This means either the Lambda probe is not working, or the loom is disconnected.

Hi mark, the resistor now connected is the one you told me to buy from ebay a few months ago, don't remember the rating. I'll check my emails from you mark.is running map 2 a problem?
