I think I need to replace the coolant reservoir lid.

I gather it is a VW part - anyone know what it comes off, or where to get one?

I know Leven do a nice shiny one, does anyone else?

Thank you,

Richard

I think its from a Mk1/2 Golf , here is one on ebay that looks right Ebay link

But I've had a bad experience with ebay pressure caps in the past. Best thing would probably be to go to a VW parts dept with the cap and ask for a new one. Be worth paying a bit extra to get one that works properly.

Or £8 + shipping from Clever Trevor

I bought one off ebay for £2.45 back in April. It's been relisted:

Clicks on nicely.

I just took my old one into German, Swedish and French and they took a look out the back - ~£2.50 although that was a little while ago.

The T-cars/Speed 6 engine use the same cap. Can confirm it is from a VW Golf Mk.2
At Le Mans Classic 2010, the cap I bought from GSF gave up the ghost after less than 1000 miles. The cap was in packaging denoting German manufacture to TUV standards...but it was c**p, cheap, but c**p.

Had to go to a local SEAT dealership in Le Mans, in the end and buy a new one...but VW branded. It's still on the car 4 years later.

Strangely, the chap in GSF said "oh, we have had a run on these...they're almost service items" (BECAUSE they're c**P). Oh, did I mention that the pattern ones are c**p?

I recently bought a couple from our local VW main dealer in Milton Keynes.
Came to £33.72 for them both aincluding VAT.
The part number (as on the invoice) is V443 121 231. It his is also the number that I gave them as I was not able to confirm exactly the make and model at the time.
I enquired over the phone but they did not have any in stock (for which they were very apologetic) but they got them in for the next day.
They are fitted to my 1995 Chimaera and 2002 Tuscan. Both are working well so far.
On the Tuscan I did have to screw it down very hard the first time but it has been fine after that. Both cars have sat in traffic since with the fans coming on and off without issue and neither has lost any water.

Thanks for all the replies.

I will get a new Audi one and see whether it is this that is loosing water - despite a recent service including recoring the rad, it lost c.1.5L in the last week.

Difficult to believe its anything else.

Thanks again,

Rich

Also check that the top of the expansion bottle (or swirl pot on earlier cars) is clean and flat as there would be no point replaced no the cap if it is not.
