One of those jobs that takes some people 5 minutes hasnt quite gone to plan... Trying to remove the thermostat and I have dropped a socket into the V of the engine. I cant see it or hook it out with a piece of wire. I am assuming that it cant fall into the engine, but wondered if there are any suggestions to get something out of there!!!

Thanks in advance

I've got a magnet on a stick for those moments, rattle it around in a hole and things normally appear.

I cant find my magnet on a stick but I will have one in the morning! Am I right in thinking it cant find its way inside at all or get wedged at the back of the V?

Don't worry Graham, at worst a lost socket at best, you'll fish it out.

If passing, I'll get it out for you.

Don't worry can't go anywhere really. Will just be lying on the valley gasket.

Just make sure the magnet is well stuck to its rod, I've lost more than one magnet off those bloody things!

Grabbed the socket first attempt, happy days! Thanks for the suggestions.

The thermostat definitely needed changing - it started opening at 45C!
