The end of the pinion then needs maching to hex 7. A Ford Ka uj can then be used as it is hex 7 one end and tvr spline the other. Obviously the short intermediate steering shaft will need altering to hex 7 on one end, or a new one made up.
You've lost me there confused

If the Ka UJ is hex one end and spline the other why would the intermediate shaft need to be hex?

Sorry yes you are right. I think that the intermediate shaft just needs its length altering slightly.

A good description Ian.

SPGSteve supplied me with a kit of parts and I fitted it, really easy.

The different length steering shaft is available off the shelf from kit car parts suppliers, same spline, different length

Classic from late 90s iirc.

I have a spare in the garage.
Classic??

Is that an Impreza, any idea if Forester or Legacy are the same?

Could you post up some pics of your spare one please?

thanks

Bargain here for anyone going this route. Brand spanker . Check before buying but it certainly looks like it has the removeable pinion.

So do "we" reckon that's the right one before I hit pay now?

It's local to me so by the time I've added new gaiters and cost of fuel to collect a s/h one it's looking like a no brainer smile

I've done this conversion and the rack ends from my original Tvr rack did not fit the subaru rack.

I chopped the original Subaru ones down and threaded them more. Then I had to taper out the hub arms to suit the Subaru rod ends.

Cant be 100% as ive not done this yet. I bought a new rack a few months back to do the conversion and it certainly looks the same as the one i got. As long as it has the removeable pinion, which it appears to have i recon you will be ok. Remember you need the mounting brackets as well. Chances are if the seller is a Scooby garage they would be able to get them for you.

I`d say its the same. Its a great price.

Theres some pics of Steves on this thread on page 3 and 7.

I recon the £120 is the right one.

Try emailing SteveSPG from the above thread and ask him. He replied to me pretty quick when i was enquiring.

Does anyone have the engineering dimensions? I bet there's something suitable off the shelf if you look long enough.

There's other threads Richard.

Unbelievably my 40K old TVR PS rack is shagged so I I too will be Scoobying sooner than later!

I can't believe a man of your age is struggling with a manual rack wink
