I have just fitted Mintex MDB1290 pads to my 95 500. They look very close to the pic. You posted

does anyone know the code for them,as i am struggling to get any sense out of the pad suppliers?
I think every manufacturer has their own code?

I bought Black Diamond PP/223 -Mondeo 2.5 V2 24valve

Or try Brakes Int.

Guys can I just check the details here so I can put them into the Alternative Parts list.

Please tell me if I have any of the below wrong;

This is all about replacing the standard calipers with Ford 887/888 calipers

Brake disks for use with these calipers are FORD Sierra (inc Sapphire) RS Cosworth 2WD
Here
  • Year: 86-90
  • Diameter: 283.0 mm
  • Thickness: 24.0 mm
  • Minimum Thickness: 22.5 mm
  • Height: 55.0 mm
  • Bore Diameter: 63.5 mm
or Black Diamond PP/223 -Mondeo 2.5 V2 24valve
Here
  • Year: 93-00
  • Diameter: 278.0 mm
  • Thickness: 24.2 mm
  • Minimum Thickness: 22.2 mm
Pads are dimensions 17 x 12 x 8.3 cm
  • Mintex MDB1290
  • Brakeparts part no BPS2378 - Ford Scorpio 2.9 V6 24v Cosworth
Do you need spacers or different length bolts or do the 887/888 bolt straight on using existing bolts with no modifications

Thanks for your help

Those calipers are threaded M12, originals are M10 so the two holes in the hub carrier have to be drilled out.

My discs were Scorpio Cosworth (Brakes Int. BDS5455), overall height 47.5mm and needed an 11mm spacer with appropriately longer and thicker bolts

Ian, the 887/ 888's replace the front brakes only. I don't think there are any cheap brake mods other than upgraded disks and pads for the rears.

I've been told that the scorpio cosworth callipers have M10 holes in them so you don't have to drill the originals out, anyone got any experience of this?

Guys, thanks for your help, but I'm a little confused

Jojackson4 which disks did you fit?

Phillpot, why did you choose the BDS5455 disks, the spacer you had to use seems a big one which would have pulled everything inboard quite a bit, was there a reason for this?

Cheers
Ian

The 283mm seem to be recommended, but some fit the 278 I think.

888 / 887 calipers:

Bigg Red caliper kit BRK206003 (does both sides), piston BRP236042

Brakes Int caliper kit BCK6003 (does one caliper), piston BCP6023

Just a quickie, but which brake lines do I want for the front and the back?

Also, can I fit bigger discs on the rears with the standard calipers (500)?

Fitting the 278mm disc rotors will need a 10mm (ish) spacer between the carrier and the caliper mount.

Fitting the 283mm disc rotors will need a 1mm (ish) spacer between the carrier and the caliper mount.

Some calipers have M10 mounting bolts some have M12 mounting bolts. Clearly you can drill out the M10 to M12 but you can't (easily) go backwards. I didn't have to drill them out when I converted my S3C to 278mm rotors and 887/888 calipers.
