Winter months on the way but the weather isn't freezing according to 15 day/long term forecast. I believe that means little or no salt on the roads - so no reason to stop enjoying our cars. It's great to be able to go for a blast when the sun is shining and the urge takes hold. But what happens when you know that those little jobs need to be done and the search functions says the people to use take weeks to send bits back?

I have a broken speedo (Milometer stopped, speed indication fine) in my Chimaera 500. I have tried to get it started and read every form of advice and have had the unit out and in bits twice. I am sure that it needs to be worked on by experts. The problem is that I don't want the car off the road for weeks while I am waiting for the "Not so Speedy" team to deliver the refurbished unit.

Can anyone help by lending me a spare whilst the original is being worked on or is there some other way?
I would be happy to even buy a working unit and sell back if that makes it safer for the provider.

Hope that some help or sound advice is available.

Phil (Based near Wakefield).

This (below) was the thread I started in the very same issue a few weeks ago. There are a couple of other people who will, apparently, turn them around in 10 days.

I just haven't got round to doing mine yet...

Thanks Richard

I saw your thread in my searching.

I have spoken to a few speedo/dials chaps including JDO but didn't get the feel that my speedo would come back right and stay right. One of the suppliers told me the TVR milometer is something they hate and sometimes they can sort but sometimes they cant - so it's Speedy Cables for me as a personal choice.

My concern is what to indicate the speed (Other than judging the rev counter) whilst driving the car when speedy cables have my unit. Hence the request for a little help.

Cheers
Phil

If these are the electronic battery inside version THEN you need to have an external battery fitted (so that it can be changed periodically) my chim had 4 new batteries prior being converted at enough money each time to strip and build.

Hi Adrian

Mine isn't the milometer that has a digital display - it's the rotating barrel with numbers and the last two are 9's at present.
The issue I understand is friction within a weak design and I have managed to take the unit apart twice and get it going but success has been short lived so need to send to experts.

If you have a satnav, that will tell you your speed.

I've a speedo you can borrow in Bradford. However Speed Cables did a repair for me in less than a week.
