Anyone fancy a cheapie at Bedford in the New Year ?, it'll be my first time so I'll need treating gently and a short day might suit.

Oh my faux pas. Didn't realise we were talking a school day plus I'm hoping mine will fail noise limits soon :-)

Help needed Chaps, noise limit is 101 dB(A) static & 87.5 dB(A) drive by. Doesn't state at what distance from the car, or from what area of the car the readings are taken. So could the Bedford trackday experienced among you give me a clue as to whether you think I'd pass or not, 450 supercharged no cats, Clive Ford Y piece otherwise standard exhaust & original silencer. I have a pair of ACT trackday silencers to fit on but have read that they may not be fully efficient due to supercharger (increased exhaust gas speed). Any suggestions much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

My fully decatted 400 was measured at 101db this year with standard exhaust. Now it is half sleeved so don't think it will pass. I think there is a phone app you can download to get a good estimate though

Phone them on 01234 332400, explain your predicament and ask if they can test your car. I failed last time with my 500, otherwise same exhaust set up as you. I was 103dB with ACT cans on.

I was there in November and measured 99.9 static with extra cans on and had no problems with the drive by meters , just make sure You change up as You go past them , they are quite visible , just check out where they are when doing the warm up laps.
Might come to this one too.

Cheers
Geoff.

Yesterday measured static at 102.7 dBA @ 4000 rpm as is, has anyone any suggestions as to what reduction the ACT bolt on cans are likely to give ? Any help, as ever much appreciated.

At least 5 I would have thought.

I have a spare set that you can borrow.

Why didn't you take your cans with you to the test?
Mine make between 2 and 5 dB difference, depending on track and atmospherics.
If you get the chance pop back to the track, do the test again with and without cans, and this time do it at 4500 rpm - it is supposed to be at 3/4 of your rev limit, which I normally round down to 6000 as mental arithmetic is the tester's weakest suit.
If your cans aren't suitable for the car, I also have a spare set you can borrow - just meet up with me outside Newmarket when convenient.

My cans knocked about 4Db off and can be borrowed from kimbolton , cambs,( a bit closer to where Richard is I think ) and only about 10 miles from bedford track.

Thank you all for your help and advice, I do have a pair of cans but I've yet to use them and they're currently out on loan but should be back soon, hence not taking them to test and asking for some feedback before booking as I don't want to wait & miss out. The consensus seems to suggest that I should get under the 101dB(A) limit so I'll look forward to breaking my trackday virginity in the New Year ! See you there chaps (sympathies to Anthony, never thought I'd feel sorry for an accountant laugh (edited to add) P.S. Geoff thanks for the offer of the loan, I travel to a client at Newmarket fairly regularly so Anthony's kind offer does make sense.thumbup
