Well here we go, my first TVR and my first problem!

I started the car from cold this weekend, and it was misfiring and sounded awful. I let it run for a few minutes and it eventually return to the usual V8 burble. I shut the engine off and started it again, but this time it fired up perfectly and ran like a dream.

Later in the weekend having left the car overnight again, I started her up and had the same misfire. Again this disappeared after the engine warmed a little and even after leaving the car for a few hours, it started fine.

Any one have any ideas what could be causing this?

Get rid of those race plugs and fit BPR7ES or BPR6ES ,If you have extenders and running 14cux run BP6 or 7ES

+1 on the plugs and maybe give it bit of a service, try and find a genuine rotor arm and dizzy. Mine does it when it's covered in ice in the morning (it lives outside), normally takes it a few seconds to warm up and start firing on all 8. Those big slots in the bonnet are really good for letting the heat out but they obviously also fail at insulating the engine compartment from the cold, having a mechanical ignition system makes the car more prone to this behaviour if everything isn't in tip top condition.

My car does that too.

It lives outdoors, and it is damp in the ignition or around the plugs that causes it. Proved because it is worse if I wash the car before starting it.

Only had my Griffith 6 months lives outside, and it has started doing it on these damp mornings. If I warm it up first for 5 mins or so while deicing, there is no problem. I leave for work at 6am or 6pm so only tend to do it at 6pm when on night shift to avoid upsetting the neighbors.

I put it down to an endearing TVR feature, although my 1935 car can be a bit lumpy until it has warmed up so maybe it's the driversmile

As a heads up it has new spark plugs at the start of the year, has a genuine Lucas rotor arm and dizzy cap too. Never had this particular problem with the car in my time, had a miss at one point which was rectified by changing pretty much every part of the ignition system! Hope you find the cause soon mate
