Was just putting the car away in the garage started the car and turned lights on which came on.
I then turned the blower heater on and all the clock dial lights went off and have no headlights or rear lights.

Everything else seems to work, blower, mirrors, brake lights, hazards, wipers, interior light, fuel gauge, oil pressure, alarm, radio, clock, boot lock, windows and the green light on the fan works and the heater control also lights up red.

I am presuming a fuse,so checked my handbook page 36 and nothing seems to tally up with my fault.

Can anyone please lead me to the fault... The car has been on the drive all day and condensation is now on the car.

Many thanks Jas

Personally I think it was that "Are TVR's unreliable thread" since I posted on there I've had nothing but trouble.

Check ALL fuses, as those guides printed in the bible don't always relate to what's actually fitted, then maybe an earth issue as it affects differing system's.

The ground was wet (got some clean jeans on) and it was already dark so didn't fancy fumbling around in the dark.

Thought I'd ask on here that maybe someone has had the same combination failure so tomorrow I could go straight to the culprit.

Dirty jeans on tomorrow and will start pulling them out, according to the book it says instrument dash lights is also the clock.. but the clock works.

Thanks for the comment Rigga.

Think there might be another large fuse (80 amp) in amongst the rats nest of wiring in the footwell, check that too, it won't be the 100 amp one by the starter as that just would stop the battery charging.

I had the same issue on my griff and it was the 15A fuse for the dashboard battery feed. What year/model have you got? Fuse board layouts in the bible are a good guide, but not always accurate. Fairly sure it will be a fuse in the main board, or at least that's where I would start. Good luck!

Hello,
It's a May 97 (P plate) I don't see a dashboard battery feed option.

Fuse 10 would be my start point buts there is no guarantee what you have is as per the manual although that diagram is the same as one of them in the bible. You could always start at the top and check one at a time. Good luck

Thanks for the help,

It's the one I thought also but what confused with the No 10 is my clock still works, and with no headlights or rear lights I presume I may have multiple or one big one as Rigga suggested 80amp.

Will do the checking tomorrow thumbup

Update

Today I checked the fuses going straight to No 10 which was not broken,I then went through some of the other fuses(Not all of them) and no sign of any burnt out.

I called David Gerald and have the car booked in tomorrow to sort this out and investigate my other thread issue about loosing my clutch fluid.

I will Report back their finding especially on the fuses just in case someone experiences the exact same failure as mine.

If it was just the head and side lights I would have suggested checking the earth at the end of the chassis just behind the radiator.

Could either be the actual switch to turn them on/off or the light control module in the dash .

Took the car in this morning and on the way i turned the light dial and lights came on as did the instrument dials and then 10 secs later turned them off.

As I Pulled into the garage I tried again and still worked, parked the car and about one minute later they didn't work,so definitely not fuse related.Could be as you have suggested Crispianwavey and with speaking to Doug said it will be the first thing to check. He did suggest it could be related to the ECU and damp but says he would imagine I would have more faults if it was,so have left it with them and wait for the phone call.

Thanks for the opinions.... Jas

Had the same problem with mine a few months ago after having the dash out.
Turned out to be just a simple case of cleaning the multiplug connector to the control module,It's situated in the dash next to the radio, you'll need to remove the radio to access it though pal.wavey

Hello Hello thumbup

Not got the car back I'll explain all when I do... But from speaking on the phone this is what it appears to be. They noticed that there was not a 100% connection going on and have since tried it many many times and they don't see a fault.

They will continue to test again tomorrow while I'm waiting for a clutch Master cylinder to arrive due to an old leaky failure on the original one.

Hopefully see you Sunday at the BZ if you're going.

See you Sunday then Crispian,Nice to know you have your car back up and running, although it was nice to see you in the XJS thumbup Got a bit of a soft spot for those.

Full diagnosis to the electrical fault as shown on the Bill reads : Investigate lights not working,ok when we tested, but found ribbon cable plug partially off switch

Also put on a new clutch slave cylinder and bleed, they also noticed that my headlamp flash was not working, wiring plug at column switch was off.

It was nice to hear from the mechanic(Nick) who delivered the car back to me at what a nice car I had and how well it drovebounce

Great, quick and friendly service from David Gerald
