because they thought they needed cats inside the manifolds themselves as well as the big cat in the y piece, Don't know how true it is, but once heard a story of tvr attempting to get into the American market and precats were used to try to meet the strict emissions laws in the states, but if its true and it failed anyway, why still supply them on cars in the uk?
decatted or turbo y piece, I Think these will do me fine 😃 thanks please send me a link to your facebook page or pm me

Thanks ste .

Those manifolds look stunning Clive. Also a big fan of your Y-piece too. Could you please pm me a price for both.

Also, just thinking outside the box a bit, has anyone removed the pre-cats, run the de-catted y-piece, but installed a sports cat under the car to keep it legal and still reduce under bonnet temps?
I'm assuming the car will still sound awesome even running a sports cat over the original design, or am I mistaken?
It's just the thought of messing around with the exhaust every year to get through the MOT that's stopped me removing all the cats so far.

Thanks

Phil

A friend of mine has the ACT manifolds and didn't want to spend out on the 2 cats for it, so we fitted a Subaru cat which is oval shaped down alongside the sump before the bellhousing, we had to cut back the main pipe and slipped it on and it worked for the mot, but being a fairly small cat I don't know if it would be healthy for the engine to run with it continuously, a cat supplier would be able to advise on what sized of cat would be needed for your bhp output, but it should be possible to do.

I've run a 100 cell sports cat on a 550bhp Subaru for many years without issue and passed emmissions test every time, so don't think it'll pose too much of a problem, depends on state of tune i'd guess?

Think thats a bit of a red-herring Cliff.

Precats were required for the warm up emissions, at the same time they were introducing the lambda sensors. I'd guess the big collector suited the introduction of the 2 items so that the lambda readings are smoothed out (remember the Lucas kit didn't see wild cams in it's rover guise & they were forced to install them in each bank).

It would make a handy mod for the MOT if you were running a turbo Y-piece.

Thanks for the advice. Does anyone know the pipe diameter that I would need to look for to get a good fitting cat?
Will try and do some digging on into the best solution for running cat further down the system and post any finding up for those that are interested.
Once sorted, I'll deffo be placing an order with Clive.....stunning work smile

Iv`e always been impressed with V8Frogs manifolds and Y piece .

Absolutely brilliant ,no need for massive pipe diameters . Why has this not been done in the UK ?

it can be done quite easily, but do people want the expense of changing the y piece and the manifolds all in one hit? plus extra cat y piece as well?
if they do I`ll make `em.

Would there be an increase in performance seeing as the gases will be flowing faster .

No, but there might be one as they will weigh less... smile
