Impreza steering rack mod
Discussion
Going to try and fit the Scobby pipes, hopefully the pipe angles at the rack will be ok , then separate the Scooby pipes, add a rubber hose to the low pressure pipe and get the TVR fitting put onto the end of the Scooby high pressure pipe, will try this first as the Scooby pipe are cheap and good quality, bit of a long shot but worth a try
Fitted my steering arms to the ends of the steering rack, using thread lock to secure, but when I tightened the arms the rack moved in the mounting rubbers, the spacers I used were 25.4mm long so have ordered some 20mm long, and will now gradually tighten down checking for movement when tightening the steering arms to establish correct spacer length
Steering rack spacers now 22.5mm, fitted power steering pump, tried to use Scooby hoses/pipes but not suitable so have ordered. various fittings and a pipe with an6 female fittings on both ends, will put detail and pics when I have figured it out, steering uj also fitted the shaft was 320 mm long and 250mm between the 9/16 36 splines on each end
Struggling with my adapters, do I need the o ring type or the similar ones without the o ring, any chance that someone has a lathe and could produce a few, as the an6 connections to connect between the adapters are common, but the Scooby rack and tvr pump fittings seem hard to find, any chances.?
Ok ordered 1 off 16mm 1.5 to an 6 adapter for tvr pump, the same for low pressure on rack, and a 14mm 1.5 an6 for the high pressure into rack, so I remove material from front of fitting until the copper crimp washers tighten, is this the same for the tvr pump, also what do you mean crimp washer, are they similar to a new sump plug washer, or just a plain washer, sorry for all the questions, but getting close to finishing now, so like a kid at Christmas,
Ordered another UJ from car builders solutions, this one differs from the one I purchased on ebay, as the M8 hole/Bolt engages with the 9/16 spline cut out, the original one did not until i opened it up to 10mm. the pinion end still had to be moved/opened up to M10, also found that by opening up from M8 to M10 the Nyloc nut gets very close to the chassis when rotating, so i have ordered a Titanium GR5 Nyloc nut and Bolt (35mm long), which has a smaller bolt head and nut (tensile and shear strength between an 8.8 and 10.9 steel bolt). Regarding adapters, i now have quite a collection, but hopefully have sourced the correct ones from Pirtek M16 1.5 491615/791615 aluminium or steel, and 14mm 1.5 491415/791415, so 2 off 16mm and 1 off 14mm ordered, fingers crossed that they fit.

If you look carefully the Pertek ones are not the same as the ones on the link, I bought these first time, then I bought the ones without the o rings, these can be made to fit, but the ones from Pirtek come from America, and fit perfectly, bit pricey,£12 each plus VAT but the guy at Pertek, said we could get a discount if the order was bigger. I do plan to do a write up for Sprint Magazine when I am totally happy with the conversion.
UJ fitted, had to fettle/file the end of the KA UJ as it was close to the angled bar on chassis, centralised the steering wheel and made sure rack was central, I now have 1 turn of the wheel each way, drove it out of the garage and back in, it feels lovely being able to manoeuvre easily, funnily enough it feels like an impreza, (i have had 3), 1 year tax starting on Sunday 01/03, so hopefully the suns out and I can take her out for a quick test drive before having all geometry checked. Ride height, rear brake pads to be done tomorrow, also need to make a bracket to fix the reservoir
Ok will do a parts list, schoolboy error with the serp belt, just checked previous pics, was ok before changing the power steering pump, thanks for that, will change tomorrow, stripped cleaned painted and fitted new rear pads today, seems I have an extra aluminium bracket that allows the larger rear discs but standard calipers.
