Completed the scooby conversion today.

Started at 7am and just finished.

Can't test as son has blocked the garage with an MGF in bits.

I completely used up my complete vocabulary of swear words, what a bd job!

It was easier on my old chim. Everything wanted tweaking and fettling to fit.

As everything is such a tight fit at the lower joint, a few mm here and there make a difference.

Testing soon.

Well done I also remember those fine words being spoken during my build, they will be long gone during the test drive😄

How did you get on with the intermediate shaft Peter. Original fit or have you sourced another one.

First test drive last night.

All seemed well, no leaks, felt very similar.

Only went for a couple of miles as I want to put it up in the air and check that I've tightened everything before giving it the beans wink

As for the splined shaft, my old one fitted perfectly.

The differance inbetween this conversion and my last one was that it seemed like the Ford Ka UJ runs closer to the chassis so I had to reduce its length by about 4mm so it would fit lower on the scooby shaft.

You have to nibble a little section from the gusset where the rack bolts on, (offside) I had to remove a little more from the gusset this time.

I found that my S/H rack had a buggered thread on the housing, (return).

Lucky I had a spare rack so I changed the housing. This is the part that you have to spin round 180 degrees.

Apart from that, plenty of offering up, adjust, adapt, grind, fettle and fit!

Thanks Simon, that would be most helpful.

Nice one Peter. My UJ arrived yesterday, so will grind the pinion shaft and get a few bits ready for the swap.

Hopefully, I would have heard from Art by that point and will have a better idea when I can progress with the rack mod. rolleyes

that UJ, you can grind a good 45 degree chunk off the offending corner with no effect on strength.

Back in the day with the fast Fords that would be considered a quick rack and on a manual system gave you fore arms like Popeye laugh

I had a Capri with a small 'sports' steering wheel and without PAS. Lets just say it wasn't the lightest... smile

It seems about right. very similar to the tiv one. I did about 20 miles of country lanes last night and it felt good.

As an eternal pessimist, (realist) if a new rack came up at a reasonable price I'd fit it!

How's it holding up, is bump steer reduced?

Did the original TVR flow/return pipe and union from the pump fit straight into the Scooby rack?
