How's it holding up, is bump steer reduced?

Did the original TVR flow/return pipe and union from the pump fit straight into the Scooby rack?
Perfect, Even though it is a S/H rack, no play at all.

Never had bump steer.

I had hoses made up at a specialist.

Ta, do you know if it's the same fitting on the high pressure hose as I've got the John Zuback one.

Another question, am I right in thinking you can unbolt the steering arms in situ? Would that allow you to swap the rack without removing the Y piece?

You can.

It is far easier to do the whole job with the Y piece out.

Most will come out with a wiggle leaving the exhaust in place.

Others require removing the exhaust!

Adapters arrived today from PIrtek, fitted them connected up the hoses to pump, filler bottle etc, started her up, HAPPY DAYS, no leaks, will take a few snaps over the weekend, here are the adapters

Just an update on this for anyone else tackling the job. I didnt want to use the adapters from Ebay Torques, the ones where you use a copper washer to make the seal as these allegedly need machining a little and i dont have a lathe. So wanted the above from Pirtek as Rowge says they are a perfect fit. So went to my local Pirtek (preston) and asked for said adapters with the part no`s Rowge has given and they had no idea what i was talking about.

So phoned Harlow Pirtek where Rowge sourced his from and Bingo. Harlow stated they are not a Pirtek part so that will be why Preston all had blank faces. The guy at Harlow said they do a lot of motorsport bits n pieces hence them knowing about this part. The guy i spoke to recognised the part no. and remembered dealing with Rowge.

So anyone else needing these ring Harlow Pirtek on 01279427300 and ask for Perry. He will know exactly what you need.

2.5 turns.
Middle ground then; a quick not a fast rack smile
Turns lock to lock is only part of the story..

I don't know squat about Scooby racks so it might actually be slower, but it is travel per turn that tells you how quick the rack is..

How is the feel compared to the original TVR rack?

Blimey 6 months since my last post, been busy on other projects, anyway had slight play in my steering, traced to the fiesta UJ, have quite a collection now see pic, the new genuine ford units joint is very tight and has zero play, the other 2 have play even the one in the centre which I have not used, so it seems the Ford one is much better quality. I am going to modify the ford one by removing approx 3mm from the front face and maybe open up the 8 mm hole to 10mm to engage with the pinion shaft, although the 10 mm nut bolt combination reduces the clearance to the chassis,.will see how it goes

I don't know if any of you are interested, but there's a brand new, never used Impreza steering rack in the classifieds, complete with bushes, mounting brackets and UJ? There's also a complete Saxo/ Corsa PAS pump to go with it.

Cheers

Lots of very helpful stuff here.

I am going down the same route and just about ready to trial fit everything. I noticed the old TVR rack has nylon rack stops, have any of you guys that have done this needed to fit something similar to the Subaru rack?

Cheers

Yes. My old steering arms ofc my manual rack had metal stops about 4mm thick. I re used these yet wheel to wishbone clearance was a just so I fitted some more 3mm nylon washers from ebay. Perfect.

Thanks I was thinking round about 7mm would be needed to match the tvr rack. Can't see anything suitable on ebay with 22mm id yet.

Did you fix them in place or just slide them on?

The stops just slide on and sit depending on thickness in the recess at the end of the rack body. Thicker ones will obviously protrude a bit.
