For those who used an Astra pump, do you find that after a little while the steering seems to have firmed up?

When I first fitted it it felt really light but lately it has started to feel stiffer at low speeds.

I have checked the fluid level which is still at the dipstick mark but can't think of any other factor that might checked. The only thing I can think of is that the pump is in behind the fans and in front of the y piece and might be affected by the heat?

Change your fluid and if it becomes light again then yes it's likely getting to hot

Is there a fluid that is suitable for higher temperatures?

Never had an issue with mine on the old car with the pump mounted in between the Y piece and the radiator. Maybe the pump is on the way out .

Already? Only been on the car a couple of months.

We have been driving it though in temperatures of 35-40 degrees though with the ac and fans going at full pelt. The pump is probably is being cooked there.

Then maybe.

You may have to move it to another place.

I use a 106 pump mounted in the front corner of the engine compartment .

Haven't had any problems.

Wrap your Y piece around the Catt area if you havnt done it already as that should reduce a lot of heat soak in that area. That might be all you need to do smile
I wouldn't want anything in that area personally and re positioning would be favourable.

I think my rack is on the way out, so considering a scooby conversion later in the year. I have acooby rack in my kit car should be able to get a good idea how it all goes together. Any idea if this is the right model rack?

Also wondered if anyone had tried the STi 13:1 quick rack in the chim?

I need to add nylon bump washers to the rack to stop my tyres rubbing against the chassis at full lock.

Does anyone know what size is needed, I have 205's on the front?

I know I could lie under the car with a micrometer while someone is turning the wheel but with it on axle stands the geometry will not be right.

No idea.

I fitted curved wishbones to stop this.

My tyres touch the arches but that doesn’t bother me.

Re-reading the thread this morning, Peter, someone mentioned that they reused 4mm metal washers from their TVR rack and then added a 3mm nylon one. Total 7mm, but this does not feel like it will be enough so if anyone else has fitted washers it will be interesting to know what thickness they used.

My TVR rack did not have any metal washers, in fact I could not use the track rod ends and had to get new ones as the thread on them was female on mine.

You can source nylon spacers that you can slip over the rack ends.

You may have to do a bit of Internet searching.

Measure the dia required, fit and test.

How likely do you think it is that I can unscrew the track rod end from the rack without taking the ball joint end off?

I really don't want to have to take it in for tracking measurement after this, as it has been done recently.

If you count threads and further Tipex index the TRE to TRA/steering arm then no issues whatsoever

Is it true the scooby rack has even lighter steering than the standard setup ?
I want to go the other way , less assistance.

I believe that my scooby is about the same as my old tiv rack, fairly light.

I have driven a number TVRs with power assisted steering and some are heavier, it doesn't make sense!

Why would the ecu need to adjust it ? I thought you can just agjust assistance on the column or does it do it speed related .
Would I have to find a non power steering rack ?
