This is why this is the best forum. I ask if anyone has done it and within 24 hours I now have a full set of instructions to do the job.

Thank you for the advice and pictures, I was nervous about doing my own but now I know it can be done without paying a small fortune. smile

get some extra tube and practice your welding, spot weld 4 points around your tube then fill in the quarters.
also you'll see I've used angle iron and U brackets to keep every thing in the right place after cutting. and don't presume the angles that look like 90 degs are because they're not wink
and most importantly of it all goes tits up you can still give it to someone who knows what they're doing

I have a 'tube notcher' which I am willing to loan out.....pm me for details. Gooogle or Youtube for similar.

I cut the tubes to make my outriggers with it. Also made extra tubes for me roll-cage.

Thank you Magpies smile YHM
And to Disco, to save all the tears that would soon follow I think I'll leave the welding to the experts wink my entire welding knowledge and experience comes from patching an exhaust on an old mk2 XR2 I had many years ago.

Cheers for the mail.

re-read barreti's previous post.

There should be a few fabricating shops around Ebro to either obtain the tube or say where to buy, also some of their welders like'govvy' jobs smile

Are you doing a full body lift or a partial? all this work can be done with a partial (3") lift but is easier with a full lift.

before cutting make wooden towers for the 3 (each side ) outer tube joining points = both corners and the centre. draw the tube positions on these ( as well as accurately measure) and use these to locate the new tubes for welding. You will only need the notching tool for the centre position joint.

Read, re-read and read again just to make sure it stays in smile
I've also found this to read http://autogasp.com/documents/TVRChimaeraBodyLiftC...
I'm currently thinking body off resto so this will be my biggest car project I've done to date but with the help from some very skilled mechanics, all you guys on here and a steady supply of coffee and biscuits I think I might just enjoy this biggrin
Not sure when it'll begin but I'm sure I'll bore you all with pictures before it ends.

Thanks again and if anyone thinks of anything else that might help then please do share and school me wink

Colin.

Put all the nuts and bolts you remove in labelled food bags and pin them to the garage wall.
Refit in reverse order becomes nice and simple then and you can't lose anything

A camera to record everything you do, tape to mark up wires as they are removed.

I think on the previous page eng. John said it was 16 SWG not 14 in your list, mine originally is 1.6mm wall thickness but if you are going back to chassis and not sleeving you can use something a bit thicker. I went for 2mm some go for 3mm.
There's a good guide I printed off aswell for body removal but I don't know how to do links, sorry. But some one will come and link it I'm sure
Best of luck

What are you going to do with all this?
AFAIK you need 2 metres at the most.

But you just know when you do your partical body lift and start looking at the rest of the chassis and mechanical parts you will be wanting to start on other jobs which the body work has been hiding !!!!
