I know a lot of people struggle with wonky exhausts. Myself included wink

I have just the exhaust fitment, everything is fine and all bolts are present and correct. How do you guys line them up? I'm half tempted to take an angle grinder to it!

Exhaust centre mounting plate front engine mount and rear hanger fully in place. Front wheels up on ramps, loosen the clamp onto the Y piece. Go to the rear of the car and twist the tailpipes up and down until the exhaust is rotating at the Y piece clamp. Line up tailpipes, when they are okay tighten the Y piece clamp. Job done

I tried that as i can get to the y piece clamp from above, but no luck as the rest of the bolts hold it too firmly in place frown

Drop it off the rear mount. That may lower the tail pipes enough to allow twisting to break the bond at the Y piece clamp

Had another go but it is still not budging. The exhaust mount is now totally loose and i know it isnt seized to the y piece as i had the exhaust almost fully off yesterday and it was sliding backward and forwards. I have take a picture looking down the underside of the car and the plate between the pipes looks parallel to the chassis. It is literally like the tips have been welded on wonky hehe

Don't you guys have the exhaust attached to the main mounting plate with rubber bobbins?

It's simple to get it lined up. Don't clamp up the front, just slot it in. Clamp up he big mounting plate and align by winding the bobbins in/out. Tighten up he front when it's where you want it,

Or is the Griff different to the Chim?

I made my own new tailpipes. Independantly adjustable.

I didn't know the bobbins were adjustable.

Well they just compress if you tighten up the mounting bolts, giving you adjustment.

The bobbin bolts are the two inner ones at the back of the mounting plate. Reach over the plate and you will feel the nuts on the top of the bolts, you need to put a spanner on this and a socket on the bolt and wind. Don't go too mad because you don't want to compress the bobbins too far. If it's massively out try swapping the bobbins over. One may be a bit more compressed than the other.
If all else fails buy new bobbins.

If the system isn't damaged or bent this is the only way, never fails as you are twisting the whole system on the axis of the front pipe.

Sorry phazed but I disagree. By doing it like this you will put undue and unnecessary pressure on the front of the exhaust and the flexi section.

I've found this photo courtesy of TVR Thunder which shows how the exhaust clamps to the mounting plate.
I know it's not a standard exhaust but the fixing mechanism is the same.
Surely any adjustment has got to be through compressing the rubber mounting bobbins.

Hadn't thought of the flexy section. Mine is a 4ltr so doesn't have a flexy. I'm also using my knowledge of fixing the alignment. I did it when I was refitting the exhaust so the front clamp had not been tightened. I made sure the tails were level before finally clamping tight to the Y piece

If you set it up using the bobbins you will be able to drop the exhaust and refit it without having any faff. It will line up when you clamp the mounting plate up.
I had a lot of problems getting the wheelbarrow handles level on my Griff until I replace the squashed bobbins.
They probably get fried by he exhaust heat.

I don't think the bobbins do much TBH. They may help adjust the height of the tail pipes moderately, but want help centre them. Is it centre the exhaust that the OP wants to do?

Neither of my two chims had a flexi.
