the 888s are wider than equivalent street tires and no TVR is the same :/

I fitted 888s, 225/45 r16 front and 225/45 r17 rear on 8 and 9 in rims with std offsets. Full trackday and no fouling. Lowered suspension, but firmed up quite a bit on the dampers! Handling was great and predictable. I fear the 245/40 888s will be a trifle to wide!
My 235/40 18 888s foul the rear wheel arches on every car they have been on except mine - I have raised the ride height.

I did the test this afternoon, putting 235/45 17 Bridgestones on the front of my chim. So admittedly one size taller than those proposed by Swanny.
No catching on the arches, though I didn't go over any pot holes or major compressions. ET was 40,less 5mm spacers = ET35.
But on full lock they caught on the wheel arches.
Tyres had 5mm of tread, so were 6mm diameter less than new tyres.
The tyre width on the 235 Bridgestones (max width, sidewall to sidewall) was actually 225mm, whereas my R888s in 235 are actually 240mm, so be very wary of buying R888s thinking the same size will be ok.

So not a particularly useful test. The tyres do seem to be very close to the wheel arches. It will very much depend on what tyre you choose as to whether it will foul the wheel arch.

hi all

I think I know ! but does anyone know how to confirm the offset on a set of team dynamics pro race that don't have a number stamped on them ?
Is it from the centre of the wheel and you take the distance from the centre to the hub ?

am I also correct that you need et 25 on the front and et 35 on the rears

cheers keith

My 235/40/17s font rub on the inner wings.

The inner rim did catch on the lower wishbone, rear side but since fitting the curved tubular ones I haven't had any trouble.

ET 25 front on all but the latest cars. ET 33 rear on all. But don't get too hung up about a few mm. I am running 35mm all round with no consequences.
You have the method right, but how to measure it is a different matter!

My rear 16" Estorils are ET35.

Because the front wheels are ET25, but half in inch narrower at 7" wide, the outside edge of the wheel is actually 3mm further out than the rear wheels. Assuming that is, that the hubs are perfectly in line with each other (?)

If I look down the side of the car with the wheels straight, I swear I can see this, but it's probably because I know it is the case. smile

Hi

Does anyone have any pics of Estorils re done in 'shadow chrome' ? It's something I'm considering as part of a general refresh this year.

Cheers

just thought I would resurrect my old post on wheels to run with the other wheel posting if this helps anyone trying to fit new rims
I myself am still looking for a set of wheels but really want to buy second-hand but as time goes on waiting i'll end up buying new lol
team dynamics pro race seem to be the best option but I have been looking at the lenso bsx range which will give the car a more classic look

I've just fitted standard 15"/16" sized Lenso BSX to my Griff.
I bought them through Wheelbase in Oldham. They ordered the wheels in specially from Lenso with my requested offsets - they'll machine the offset and pcd free of charge at Lenso - so I have 7x15 et25 and 7.5x16 et35 exactly the same as the factory wheels.
I've read wheel nuts can be a problem as stock TVR nuts need to be cut down to get the BSX centre caps on over them - not the case here as Wheelbase supply a set of shorter bolts with the wheels, plus the right Ford spigot rings.
They built the wheels up with new Toyos, all completely unmarked. I'd recommend them - maybe not the cheapest but great service.
Self adhesive domed resin TVR 70mm centre badges from ebay here fit perfectly.
Only downside is the centre caps are plastic - Calibre Vintage are proper ally - but the Calibres weren't available in the sizes I wanted smile

hi andy43 , I have emailed rimluxe "lenso's" and found them very helpful , yes
looks like they can do most offsets as in your case , they were offering me 16" 7.5j fronts
with et30 and 17" 8.5j rears with et 25 just not sure if the offsets work ?

any chance you can post up some photos of your car with the new wheels

cheers keith

I ran 255/40/17s on the rear.

They are 10" wide and will take 275mm wide.

I am running 18x9" on the rears and run 265/40/18s.

You have to trim the rears, it would be sacrilege not to with those wheels.

It took me no more than 3 hours to trim and fibreglass, easy peasy honestly.
Did the 255 fit with no trimming of arches

yes up to a point, keep the ride height up but on my first TD there was problems.

Trimming only takes a couple of hours.

This is before I stuck the centre badges on...
They look as near as damn it to the original OZ, but they're only one piece.

Trying to understand offsets still ! If I was to use a 7.5j wheel on the front and a 8.5j on the rears what would be the best offset to use ? Et 25 f and et33 I'm sure would have to change as the wheels are 1" wider , so would you try to central the wheels or have more of the wheel sticking outwards so it dozens catch inside

Standard ET on most Chims is ET25 front and ET33 rear. What I cannot now remember is what are the wheel widths of the standard set of Imolas or Estorils? Can anyone please supply this info?

I will however go outside shortly and read the back of my perfect Chimaera fit SP12s and report back

hi Anthony ,i'm sure the fronts are a 7j and the rears are 7.5j , so would I be correct that the offset should change to allow for the new size of wheel

Yep fronts are 7, rears are 7.5, Griff or Chim afaik.

This is good to play about on http://www.1010tires.com/Tools/Wheel-Offset-Calcul...
