Managed to source a good pair of calipers, hopefully the carriers are good. Another point is that I work in the aerospace industry, so microns not mm's, so I may be being a bit critical as I assume you need some movement in the pin/carrier but how much is hard to tell.

Is this the rebuild kit referred to earlier:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Sierra-XR4WD-Coswor...

i.e. a caliper repair kit for the Ford Sierra Cosworth 4x4?

Steve I've checked and have both my original rear calipers, however the pad track width your refer to in your post is only 23mm (which I've also marked in yellow) ! but I'm sure the discs I removed (now discarded) were vented 283mm ! must say I'm a bit confused but have attached a photo anyway. Cheers, Richard

Hi Richard, starting to dream about calipers, the 55mm dimension is the length of the ground area that the pads move along , I think you may have measured the gap, hope this makes sense, I have reassembled my old caliper with the new pins, so I can use the car until the new ones arrive, thanks for looking them out, the carriers are getting rare. Cheers Steve

Hi Steve, glad you appear to be sorted but just to prove to myself I'm not losing the plot I'll pop back in the garage tomorrow and measure the correct dimension.

Steve, just checked my calipers and the space for pad & disc is indeed 55 mm, still got my sanity (just) !
