Hi all,

I have a standard 4.0 Chim 1993, it runs fine , problem is when it's been in the garage for a day or two there is a really strong egg smell, it does not smell when running so does that rule out the cats?

Going to check the battery as I have been told this can also cause this.
Any ideas or has any one had a similar problem.

Thanks.

Does this usually happen after you've consumed baked beans?

Boiled or fried?
Sorry couldn't help myself.
Got to be battery or somethings stuck under the seat,
Could a coolant leak give off a similar smell,
Mice ???
Something else enjoying the warmth of your car !

Have you checked the boot for eggs?

They don't like global warming...

The battery contains sulphuric acid, so is a potential source of sulphurous gases. Maybe it could be giving off hydrogen sulphide, which is the classic "bad eggs" gas. I've never heard of a battery doing that, but...

First thing I'd check is whether the battery is warm. If so, disconnect it and if possible remove from the car because it could be a fire hazard.

How old is your battery? They only really last 6 to 8 years, so it could be time to replace it anyway.

As Mike says, never smelt a battery but they do have the potential to give off an egg smell due to the sulphurs.

I've had screen wash go bad before and that's smelt pretty eggy, but id do what Mike days and get the battery out and check asap

If you suspect the smell is coming from the battery it may not be the batteries "fault", more likely it is being over charged?

I'd check the alternator output voltage scratchchin

Could be the cats too, maybe releasing the odour when the car is sat after a run.
