BTW, I run the Federals as mentioned by OleVix - must be 595 RS Rs, not SSs - and think they are great.
Hi Anthony

You were on 888's weren't you? How do the two compare?

Ian
My take on them is that the 595s make a good all round road tyre/track day tyre, especially if wet.

The R888s give a little more grip but worse in the wet.

I'd compare the 595s more with Toyo R1Rs.

I think that's a good analysis Peter. I can add that:

1. Unlike R1Rs, 595s don't overheat on a hot dry track day
2. I will be selling my 888s, as my 595s are both my road and track tyres and, IMHO, are as good on track as 888s.
3. I am not as good a driver as Peter, so need longer to react. The 595s give me more warning than 888s when I am close to the imits of grip.
4. They are half the price of 888s
5. They wear slower.

I am assembling a set of R1Rs for really wet days.

If anyone wants a starter set of part worn 888s (215/45 17 fonts, 235/45 18 rears), let me know. Mine are about half worn, so about 3.5mm. They come with 5mm new, and are forked at about 2mm, so loads left.

The best thing about the R1R`s is there bloody cheap . They do road tyres ,its time for someone to try them .

Hi Anthony, 15s front 205/50/15. 16s rear 225/45/16. I didn't want to get into the realms of bigger wheels, spacers ,longer nuts /studs etc etc. See you there wink

Nice one Colin I see you are not fking around going for the R888s. I have gone for a compromise and have had AD08Rs fitted today. I am also far too tight to buy a tyre which does not come with 8mm of tread.

Unfortunately not, I am away on the 29th which is a real shame as it looks like a really good turn out from the TVR boys and on the only track where I never have any issues getting through the noise test. You will have to let me know how you get on with the R888s, they are supposed to be mustard.

Just keep an eye on your oil pressures if you do not have a baffled sump as the R888s you can apparently pull so much lateral G in the corners you can in some circumstances suffer from oil starvation, so I have been told.

There is a massive difference in diameter ,don`t the do a 50 profile for the rears

I don't agree Daz.
This is giving the standard one inch of rake front to rear, and would come up slightly smaller than standard road tyres, except 888s are bigger than standard road tyres. Good choice, Colin

What is the diameter of the 45 profile for the rears and how wide are the 205 and 225`in the R 888`s

On the website 225/45/16 608mm

225/50/16 627mm

I thought they were larger

Yes, but the 205/50 15 fronts are 586mm.....
These wheels and tyres come out about 20mm smaller all round than his road wheels, and as circuit driving is about handling and acceleration, not ultimate top speed, I think that's a good thing, not a bad thing.

Hi Trevor,Yes it will be good to see the difference . My tyres were letting me down last time .I was on Bridgestone rears and Eurotyre fronts. They were all part worn and came with the wheels I bought ,and as they were not track tyres they weren't up to much. Will be good to see you ,lets hope for a nice dry day. wink
