Current plans will stretch the T5 and i dont think it will last too long if i dont change it

Which 6 speed box are you after ?I spoke to John yesterday with regards to upgrading to a 6 speed. He has nothing in at the moment

Any idea how much difference a longer 5th gear would make ?

200mph That's why you are "Dangerous Derek "
LolHe has a good point. There is no way I would want to go 200mph in a Tiv.

Cool, the core plug looks spot on and way cheaper than my very expensive bung.
Teach me about the 5th gear mod Simon.
And how much was it?
Hi Dave, well Paul can explain it better than me I wasn't aware of this flawed design on the T5 until I read stuff off a Mustang forum concerning the strength and waekness's of the T5 as you do then see Paul's link but its not hype anyone with a bit of gearbox savvy can see the problem/design flaw Paul describes, so I thought if I am in there anyway doing the tail-housing mod anyway .... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoGxWPt-5GcTeach me about the 5th gear mod Simon.

Give Gearboxman a call - I've had the mod done on mine as I suffered the issue a few years ago. Basically the 5th gear circlip can be pushed off if you put too much torque through 5th gear due to the thrust induced by the helical gearing. I accelerated in 5th shortly after I bought the car and lost drive in 5th (gear left spinning freely on the shaft). Fortunately I was on the way to TVR Power so they pulled the box out and sent it to Gearboxman who make the mod to lock the circlip on properly and it's been fine ever since

Right that looks excellent, the extra bearing security is certainly well worth having but I also like the opportunity to better hold the end float where it needs to be.To my mind it's getting the end float right that's going to have the biggest impact on shift quality, so not only does it retain the bearing better but it could also improve the shift.
When will I ever stop the spending
Saying that, it does seem churlish not to do these little extras once the box is out.

What is that shaft between the S10 tail and the 5th retainer mod? I am worried I am missing out on something!
Its the shorter shift rail Matthew necessary because the gear sticks moved closer to the selector forks, although its possible to cut your one down and drill holes for the the roll pins but for the cost involved I didn't bother it was peanuts anyway Gassing Station | Chimaera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
