Does anybody have a proper AP racing clutch, the proper 500lb/ft one that the Tuscan V8 race series cars had fitted. AP are quoting 6 weeks, and my car is currently being turboed by Eann, or any other bright ideas, I have looked at McLeod 10.5 but there are no flywheels in the UK at the mo.

Getting desperate.

Have you tried Real Steel for the clutch and fly?

I fitted one of ap's clutches to nicks sc chim running around 375ftlbs torque we cooked it in one season now fittied a triple plate sperclutch with a ttv racing flywheel but should you want the old ap one the pressure plate is fine just needs a new disc.

Hi robin, another vote for Real Steel here, I had my steel flywheel and twin plate clutch delivered in two days.

Hi Mac

I took the plunge and am really looking forward to the shove, but murphy's law has struck early!

I spoke to real steel but they have no flywheels at the moment, they never mentioned a twin plate clutch though, is that a McLeod twin plate?, Does it need a release bearing Mods, it seems from a sweep on here people have all sorts of set up issues with the slave and release bearing needing machining.

You sure a McLeod 10.5 will go in the housing?

I have no idea, but apparently so. My days of personal spannering are over, I now subscribe to cheque book engineering. Thanks for the offer, but looking plug and play really, and a 500 is no different to 400 I believe, which will need machining to get it to fit, same as mine.

Thanks John, AP don't have any discs

How is this triple plate clutch on the road, and were any other mods required to fit it? I would prefer not to have a clutch that is either on or off. Did TTV supply all of it or did you source from both companies and was it of the shelf?

Hi robin,
The thrust bearing carrier has to be shortened on the bearing side, not a massive job and the external slave can be retained. The standard flywheel has to be re-drilled and so balanced. It is as light as my Astravan clutch. I went for a steel flywheel from Real Steel of which is already suited for the McLeod clutch and had it lightened and balanced.

I sourced from both companies the clutch was of the shelf but a new master cylinder is required to get the correct ratio to release bearing the one i used is a 14mm ap offering you then need a remote resevoir ,on the road nice take up etc. But noisy when ticking over at normal speed pick it up to 1100rpm all gone quiet you also need a 12 kilo ttv flywheel with most of the weight on the perifery and machined so the clutch face is 8mm further back to allow for the smaller depth to the superclutch triple plate they also rattle when you depress the peddle as the plates both driven and drivers are neccessarly loose in the cage but fit and forget terrific bite.

Go for a triple plate clutch - at least then, when you lunch it, you will get a three course meal for your money getmecoat
