Do you want to stay hydraulic or go to solid lifters? Roller rockers? Double or single valve springs? Pocketed pistons? Are you intending to stay with a single plenum?

I will stay on hydrolic lifters. 4.3 have double springs and pocket pistons.
I want to stay on single plenum but maybe in the future to ACT double plenum.

Has anyone a 885 cam on a 4.3? And is it more progressive than the standard 214?

I have the Stealth cam ,its idles perfect and the power comes in quickly ,there are far more agressive cams but mine is suitable for the road and track .

The Stealth cam seems to be the best compromise for road and track .

Can you not improve the idea and drivability of the 404 with a decent map and aftermarket ECU?

Yep, long overlap cams are the devil's work. Certainly don't try and pair one with a turbo wink

I have a 218. All other things being equal, what would the likely BHP difference be between that and a Stealth on a 5L? It would be nice to see a real back to back test on these cams with some real life figures.

The H218 is a midrange cam, and from the unofficial lift/duration/timing numbers i've got for both the Stealth cams, you likely wouldn't seem much difference at all with the regular Stealth.
If I read the above correctly, are you saying there are two different grinds of Stealth cams? What's the eifference between the two?

FWIW my car has a Stealth and puts out loads of mid range torque and acceptable top end. I was hoping for more top end at a sacrifice of mid range. (But it could also be that my heads need work to help the Stealth....)

There are lots of different hydraulic cam grinds available (around 40) for the Rover V8, but they all fall into 3 or 4 performance groups, and unless you jump up a group (or go from a very knackered cam, to a spanking new one) there's not much to be had in the power stakes.

All the cams in a given group are much of a muchness & the only company that i've seen that do radically different grinds are Kelford with tight LSA's & low exhaust lift, though i've never heard of anyone using one.

That's interesting. In the above list of cams, the H218 is promoted as good midrange, poor BHP. Whereas the stealth is good BHP. 'Poor' and 'good' can mean different things to different people, however, from what you're saying, this chart could be a little misleading?
